Protestors in Queens scare Bush away from PhotoOp at firehouse.
According to A Noise radio (affiliated with nycindymedia), Bush was scheduled to be among firefighters watching Cheney's speech, apparently so they could cut between Cheney at MSG and Bush with the heroes of 9/11. I was on my way home from work tonight when I heard an announcement that because of a "special event" several lines would bypass one station in Queens. They never said a word about the RNC, but I was looking around at other passengers waiting on the platform, and I saw a whoooole lot of eye rolling going on. Anyway, it seems the RNC decided to cancel the photo op because of the number of protestors--most of whom were right from the neighborhood, according to the announcer--gathering outside.

2. Schwartzenegger, too
My husband heard protestors had run off Schwartzenegger. He was trying to avoid them but he couldn't. I wanted to see the entire report on Channel 4 but missed it.

4. Update: 150 to 200 protestors, eyewitness says.
Lots of neighborhood people, little kids and families, people of all races, kept in a pen across from the social club (not firehouse) where the firefighters would be. Helicopters flying all over the neighborhood. Turns out Bush did show up, but only for less than an hour. He arrived about 8:15, was gone by 9:00, she said. She thinks it didn't go off as planned because they weren't expecting any protestors, let alone up to 200.

5. Poor Shrub's not used to a protest-friendly environment...
What with all those sterilized events he's been at. I guess he'll need an even longer vacation at the pig farm now that he's encountered some.

9. I guess A Noise radio, like me, has been avoiding watching the convention
coverage! That's sickening. I'm ashamed for New York firefighters, allowing themselves to be used like that.
