3. It is not HOPING FOR A POOR REPORT. We don't relish people's misery.
But we know whatever they say is going to be an overestimation to protect Bush.
Did you hear where they are going to "create a new way" to figure out poverty numbers? The gall.

14. A new way has been needed for a long time.. however....
..Bush would want a system that says less people are poor. What we really need is a system that honestly counts how many people actually do live in poverty, which because of the way it is calculated, is actually higher than what is ever shown in numbers.

4. A clue
The WH gets the report at 5:30 pm on the Thursday(today) before the official Friday release. If Bush talks alot about jobs tonight you know what they say. If he doesnt talk alot about jobs, then you no it's bad

8. Exactly
If he starts spewing about Kerry defending the country with Spit Balls, you can assume there was a loss of about 100K jobs.

7. Sort of a loaded question...
I would like to see this country doing well. It bothers me that we're supposedly the greatest, wealthiest nation on earth and a large percentage of our population is poor. So I would like to see our economic situation get better -- very much so.

The timing of this report has political implications, though. There's no question in my mind that the way to get this country back on the right path is to get the Democrats back in control. The Republicans have proven that they do not care about the American people as a whole -- they care about themselves and their cronies. So temporary good economic news now helps them keep power, get re-elected, and use the re-election as proof that the American people approves of their approach. A Bush re-election will gut this nation even further. So I hope that this report is somewhat better, but not enough to make a difference to the Bush re-election.

9. From last hour action in the market, it seems numbers will be good
What that means, however, is debatable.

13. The maket has risen on bad job numbers too.
Because it would mean lower labor costs and lower interest rates.

16. Yes, it has happened before but
right now I think there is just way too much focus on the employment numbers both from an economic ("jobless recovery" is hard to sustain) and political standpoint. I will be surprised if market goes up with lousy job numbers.

10. They have a lot of incentive to lie.
I think they will produce a number that is over 100,000, though you never know. In actuality, I seriously doubt many jobs were created, but Bush and his folks lie.

12. stocks are up, but only one more month of job numbers before election....
But considering the foreboding sentiment sweeping the country right now, I do not see how that is possible.

I would guess 120K up.

If the numbers are really low, Bush is cooked. Remember, we only have one more jobs numbers before the election--October 2 will be the next and last one before the election, correct?

15. Bush to announce good numbers in his speech tonight?
Edited on Thu Sep-02-04 03:20 PM by tritsofme
Thats the rumor all the bond traders are talking about.

My projection earlier this week was 90,000.

But now I'm thinking 150k-200k.

How about that big late day rally in stocks today?

The WH just got an advance look at the figures at 4pm EDT.

23. I don't think he could explicitly announce numbers
in his speech and if so, he won't know if they are good until he gets them now. Announcing them early would be a bad move because investors in the overnight market, etc. are anticipating the release at 8 AM.

18. There is no reason for bu$h* to get the numbers early
As far as I'm concerned, that makes him prone to insider trading, and we all know how greedy he is.:grr:

22. 150K
spun as "good" when 125K are needed just to keep up with population growth.

so, 25K per month increase gets us back to the # of jobs when clinton left in around oh, say about 8 years?

good show, mr president.

i do believe mr bush would screw up a one car funeral.
