Went to a "Bush" bash last night and ripped up Bush & no-one cared. |

One of my neighbors had a party to watch Bush's speech. These people know that I hate Bush & the Repub. Party becasue I'm always ranting and raving about BushCo.
I asked them if they REALLY wanted me to come to the party and that I would probably not be able to help myself from going berserk during Bush's speech and they told me that it was really more of party for "Democrats and Republicans" to discuss the issues and that they wanted to have a lively discussion.
I decided that I would go and question the people as to why they liked Bush and maybe discreetly talk to a few people about the awful Bush regime.
When I got there nobody was really paying much attention the any of the speeches and they didn't seem to be too terribly "into it." I made a few "joking" comments like how that convention was filled with a bunch of unhip middle-aged white people, etc. and had crappy music and people just kind of laughed and smiled. No-one said a word about it.
Then my neighbor and I talked about Bush (I of course was criticizing him). She told everybody that I knew more about politics, etc. than anybody she's ever met. (wtf - yet she STILL supports Bush).
Then everybody left right before Bush's speech. I got the idea that no-one there really gave two rips about Bush and just came to drink and eat. This was in Naples Florida - a very Republican area.

Sometimes drinking the kool-aid causes tone deafness.

2. I run in to this scenario all the time: |
|
Andrew,(which is my name) you are a genius. I've never met anyone more rational, informed and articulate than you. Every time I talk with you make things make so much more sense....
(person goes off and continues to support Bush.)

3. I've seen this sentence in a lot of threads... |
|
"She told everybody that I knew more about politics, etc. than anybody she's ever met."
Well, maybe nto that exact sentence but the theme is the same. DUers post about dealings with repukes and the repukes end up saying somtehing like, "I know you know all of these things, I just don't know or pay attention..."
They know folks, they know they're cooked in an informed populace, that's why dismantiling public education is key tenet of their policies.
Divided and Dumb = Vote Republican
Informed and United = Vote Democratic

What was funny was people started clapping for the protestor that showed up in the middle of the Bush* speech!
There were some people there I thought might be Republicans, but none of them really looked like it so I'm not sure. But they were far outnumbered and I picked up a ketchup bottle and yelled a threat at potential infiltrators to demonstrate to a fellow Democrat what would happen (I was kidding, but if I was an onlooker I wouldn't be so sure), so the night went off without incident.
