**** OFFICIAL DU CLINTON WELL-WISHERS THREAD #4 ****
Edited on Sat Sep-04-04 06:00 AM by Skinner
In response to the news about Bill Clinton's health scare and surgery, many DU members have already approached me to ask if we could do something for him. I briefly discussed it with the other Admins, and here's what we've decided to do.

We would like all concerned DU members to post their well-wishes in this thread. You can post as much or as little as you like. If you'd like, you may consider signing your post with your name and hometown. I will open additional official well-wishers threads as necessary.

Once everyone has had ample opportunity to post their thoughts, I will print out or transcribe the thread(s) and forward them to Bill Clinton's office, along with a card or flowers or some other appropriate gift.

I trust that all DU members will participate in this thread with the appropriate level of respect. Inappropriate or disruptive comments will not be appreciated.

Thank you.

David Allen
DU Administrator

This is thread #4. Here are Thread #1, Thread #2, and Thread #3.

7. Please, Mr. President
Take as good care of yourself as you did of the country. My prayers go out to you and your wonderful family and my hope is for a speedy and uneventful recovery. Thank you, sir, for keeping us safe in such an unsafe world, for keeping us whole when others would tear us apart, and for caring enough to do your best. But most of all, thank you for being everybody's president. :hi:

31. We Need You in This Campaign More Than Ever
Your health is top priority, of course, but 4 more years of Shrub will wreak havoc on IT as well as on everything thing else in this country.

"Get well SOON" takes on that much more meaning.

-------from an individual (& demographic) that has backed you from the '92 primaries to date: I met somebody from Arkansas during the debates for those primaries and said, "Your governor was the best one."

41. My dear Mr. President
You have been in my prayers constantly since the breaking news about your health. I have thought the world of you from the first time I heard you speak in 1991, and I knew then you would be president. I have continued to admire you, what you stand for and all that you have strived to do throughout your terms in office and beyond. And I feel truly blessed that I have lived long enough to witness and be inspired by two truly great presidents -- John Fitzgerald Kennedy and you, William Jefferson Clinton. How much better I would sleep, if you were still at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue instead of that dim-witted, unelected, warmongering squatter.

Here at DU (www.democraticunderground.com), you are affectionately and admiringly known as our Big Dawg... simply the best, better than all the rest when it comes to dealing with the monster that the modern GOP has become. While we need you now more than ever, our first thoughts are not about what you can do for us but rather what we can do for you.

So please take care of yourself, get through the surgery, then rest and allow yourself to recover fully.

All the best to you, Hillary and Chelsea -

Carol

55. Dear President Clinton,
I just KNOW that you will recover beautifully from this operation. Thank goodness you had the angiogram and caught it in time. Bypass surgery is performed regularly these days and with great success. I have no doubt that you'll be up and about in no time....4 to 6 weeks...don't try to do too much too soon.

You were the best, most intelligent, most caring and most effective president of the 20th Century. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. We miss you now more than ever. We need you back to help us get rid of the monsters who have taken over our country.

I'm so glad I got to shake your hand at your book signing in L.A. recently. In my brief moment in your presence I could "feel" your compassion in those lovely blue eyes...and although I had just a couple of sentences I could blurt out in such a short time I hope I got my message across; I am honored to have met you in person, I said, among other things, "We love you, we love your wife, we miss you and need you." And I also asked you to please help us get rid of these thugs in OUR White House and you said, "I'm trying" which I know you are....but please, not if you have to sacrifice your health for us. Of all the people you have met, I'm sure you don't remember all of us but I (tall brunette) was wearing 4 buttons; a picture of you, MY president, "Bush is Satan", "Bush is a Fascist" and "Clinton help us!" For me that was a golden moment and one I will never forget....as was the time I met your wife in Pasadena at one of her book signings. She's a wonderful woman and I'm so glad you have each other. You are both the cream of the crop. And Chelsea is indicative of what fine parents you are.

You have done more good for more people than you will ever truly know and we are so fortunate as a nation to have had you as our leader for those brief eight years. Hopefully, we will have another President Clinton in the years ahead.

They tried their best to destroy you but they couldn't and this "setback" will only prove to them all how much we truly love you, respect you, and admire you and your many accomplishments. You are STILL our last duly elected president. We supported you through all of that hatemongering and we support you now. I hope that you, Hillary and Chelsea, and the rest of your family, can FEEL the outpouring of love from the entire world. It's genuine and real, just like you.

My very best wishes and "vibes" are being sent to you and your family during this time. I hope that Hillary and Chelsea get some comfort from the outpouring of love I KNOW you are all receiving. If there was ever a man who could make it through this...it's YOU! You're the "comeback kid" and this won't stop you at all! They can't keep a good man down....not for long.

My most most sincere thanks for all you have done for us as a nation and for all you continue to do for the less fortunate around the globe.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery and MANY, many more years ahead!
We need you and Hillary now more than ever.

Have Hillary bring you a laptop so you can chat with us. Many of the posters here can be hilarious and have saved me from stressing out (too much) over this election.

63. Bless your heart, I know you're feeling puny right now
but you will get over it and be back on your feet in no time. I wish you a speedy recovery, and I have faith that the strength and love of your family (and all the millions who also love and admire you) will help you pull through this difficult time. I will send you a jar of my blackberry jam and a jar of peach jam, too, if I know that you'll be able to receive it. The prayers of the nation are with you. No one wants anything less than the best for the best president the U.S.A. has ever known. More love and peace, Vicki Mooney, 2307 Balls Creek Road, Claremont (where Democrats are rare!) NC 28610

65. Best Wishes, Mr. President
Thank you for your hard work when you had the responsibility for running our country.

I had angioplasty, two separate procedures, a week apart, in February, so I have some idea how you feel- pretty much like I felt while I was waiting for the second one. I am not a religious man, so I cannot offer prayers, but I hope that you find some help for your spirit in your beliefs, and I can and do say that you will be in my thoughts, as you often are, but moreso until I hear that you are well again, and with my good wishes for a successful procedure and speedy recovery added.

Please listen to them and mend your diet; I know it will be hard, it was hard for me too, but we want to be able to hear your comments, and know that you are with us, for many years to come. I will tell you my trick: every time I visit the 'fridge, or the pantry, no matter what else I take out I always get some fruit, or a vegetable, or a fruit or vegetable juice. Take your pills faithfully, too; it's the most important part, at the beginning. I hope that helps you, even if just a little bit.

Well, enough fussing. Best regards and warmest wishes,
-Bill Bishop
Seattle, WA

PS, I am just into the second chapter of your first term in your book, and I am enjoying the inside view you give. Thank you also for that.

Wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery, so that you can get back on the campaign trail soon. We need your wisdom and intelligence more than ever as this most important election draws near. Who would have guessed that so much of the good that was done during your years in the White House could be reversed or negated in such a short time by the incompetent imposter that will be ousted by John Kerry & John Edwards.

Take care. Watch funny movies. Obey the doctors and nurses. Get well.

98. you are irreplaceable
Dear President Clinton,

You are the person who got me interested in politics in my mid-forties! Before you, I thought politics was just some old white guys who could never interest me. I never even voted until you came along!!

I was even out demonstrating against the witch hunt against you, way before bush even stole the election!

Now I am an ardent political watcher and I read about politics and world affairs daily. As a college teacher, I work hard to interest my students in world affairs.

You've done a lot of good in your time. You are simply irreplaceable. I'll be lighting a white candle for you during your operation.

Peace and be well.

Mr.President, you'll be in our thoughts and prayers next week as you undergo surgery. It seems like many decades since you were in power and the World was a much more peaceful place and America was on solid footing.

America was respected for what it could do for other nations, not feared by how many bombs we could drop. Hopefully by November we'll know that after four long years we can get America back on the right track. Best wishes to you and your family.

Proof that Lincoln wasn't the last "Rags to Riches" President. Proof that the American Dream really hasn't fallen by the wayside! A real man. Someone the average American can look up to! Don't stop, don't lose the focus of your former office. Former Presidents make excellent diplomats and social welfare agents. Look at Carter! :) Keep it up. -Much Love and Respect---Jason Johnson

Yes, this is a serious operation, but thank God it is routinely done these days.

My dad had a quadruple bypass way back in 1983 ... and am happy to tell you that he is still around and as feisty as ever!!!

Just make sure that you do everything that your doc tells you to.

Will also say more prayers to get you through the depression that will follow this operation. (Scientific fact, unfortunately)
It will not last long.

Hang in there! You'll make it!!!

116. SHOOK YOUR HAND SEPT 1 IN NEW ORLEANS
Dear President Clinton,

We met you at the New Orleans Barnes & Noble book signing. We so much appreciate your graciousness and kindness in telling Freda Katz she was the most beautiful woman "of a certain age" you had ever seen. All of us in her family know this to be true. She is a woman who has had enough life experience to give her an uncommon inner and outer beauty. She will never forget your words and neither will we.

We know you will pull through this just fine. You have the best care and the love and support of millions, yes millions of people on this planet.

You will go on to contribute to the peace and sanity of this country and planet, as you have always done. We WILL get back on the right path, the path of wisdom and global harmony, due to the influence and strength of leaders such as yourself, as well as the essential common sense of the American people.

We thank you for all the good you have done. May G-d and all his messengers guide and care for you and your family always.

Freda, Myron and Sharon Katz

121. Best wishes Mr. President. We quadrupler's have to stick together and .
let those out there who are putting off having a needed by-pass that it really is a breeze. Maybe we can form a club of some kind. You'll go through this like the trooper you are. It may feel like a truck has run you over for two days or so in ICU, but after they take those tubes (that cause the pain) out of your chest (doesn't hurt), you'll be able to run a mile in record time. If I, an old lady who had been on dialysis for eight years by then, did it, then you can easily do it. Everyone is in your corner, please know that. When it comes to a person's health and something like this, politics goes out the window. Your wife is our Congresswoman and although I've never met her, you must be very proud of her.

Sincerely,
