OBL "could happen tomorrow, could happen the day after, a week from now...
...or a month from now"

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=578&ncid=578&e=6&u=/nm/20040905/ts_nm/pakistan_usa_osama_dc

Cofer Black, State Department coordinator for counter-terrorism, said in Islamabad the entire "infrastructure" was in place to capture bin Laden and his close lieutenants, Pakistan's English language Daily Times reported.

"Success against people that you know about, Osama, could happen tomorrow, could happen the day after, a week from now, or a month from now," he added.

Black's comments, made only to Pakistani media, came just a few days after President Bush (news - web sites), who is standing for re-election in November, said that three-quarters of known al Qaeda leaders have been captured or killed.

"Osama bin laden is probably the most hunted man in the planet now. Osama bin Laden and his associates at that level are primarily defensive, they spend most of their time trying to keep from getting caught," Black told private Geo Television. "If he (bin Laden) has a watch, he should be looking at it because the clock is ticking. He will be caught.

1. Then again, it might not!
I will start to believe these guys on the day they discover those stockpiles of WMD and the reconstituted atomic bomb programs in Iraq.

2. Which only leaves two possibilities....
1) OBL is already in custody

OR

2) The entire line is speculative because there is no way we would giving out information about how close we are before the fact and give him a chance to slip through the net or martyr himself.

6. ObL has achieved pop star
idol status over there. They won't hand him over.

think...
American idol star Clay Aiken was wanted by the holy men of Iran?

Or that they demanded we turn over Michael Jackson due to his musical preference?

aint gonna happen my friend . ;)

7. This report is really strange
If they had bin Laden or were close to catching him, his name would have been mentioned all over the RNC. I'm confused as to why this State Department guy would then come out a few days later talking about bin Laden and bringing his name back into the mind of the US voters again and the fact that we still haven't found him yet.

8. They will call a press conference in a few weeks and display OBL's
DNA in a speciman slide. It won't be as dramatic as Saddam's capture announcement, but what are you going do?

9. next week, it'll be "we have him cornered"
then no mention for months because he slipped away, or they had absolutely no one cornered. they're just issuing press releases to make it look like progress is being made.

10. My prediction:
They'll find him at a Burger King in Kalamazoo, Michigan, having lunch with Elvis, Jimmy Hoffa and the Lindberg Baby.
