Dealing with a B*shbot in my dorm.. |
|
Alright, so, said B*shbot sees the big ol' IMPEACH BUSH sign I keep in my room, and has thus taken it upon himself to write "BUSH ROCKS" or something like it on my whiteboard every day or so. It wouldn't be as annoying if he didn't madly scribble over other stuff on the whiteboard, such as my ongoing election countdown or whatever random silly message I've already scrawled on there.
However, I don't think he's maliciously pro-B*sh; he seems more I'm-not-paying-attention pro-B*sh. I've decided to combat this by taping some factlists about B*sh to my door, in the hopes that they will catch his eye and he will realize what a sack of shit he's been blindly supporting. The problem is, I don't have much experience dealing with people like this, (I live in Washington state and on top of that attend a incredibly liberal college) so I figure who better than my fellow DUers to ask what sort of facts are most likely to provoke thought in this fellow's head, factlists already making the rounds on the internet, etc.
I figure this is a better response than figuring out which room he's in and writing silly political haiku on his whiteboard, y'know? :)

2. there's always good stuff posted on DU |
|
This one came up yesterday or so http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=2312082Print out the entirety of the list that is in the link of the first post, and you'll have good ammo against the shrubbot. And other DUers can lead you to 10,000 other great things to print out... good luck!

3. put up the draft issues |
|
i am sure you can find a lot of links here about the draft. so your bushbot is in the dorm too....hmm, he or she is at the right age for being called up. let the bot read a few articles on the possibilty of being drafted and you may see the tune change. that person will really think 'bush rocks' when he or she is dodging bullets in another country far from home and the safety of the university.

Box out an area of your whiteboard just for him, and leave instructions saying that he is to write in a reason for supporting Bush. One reason per day, or one reason every few days, whatever. Then, you can research that reason and post a response.
For instance, if he says Bush is strong on terror, cite the State Dept report showing an increase in terror attacks. Quote Bush's own words about terrorism coming from people who are unhappy/oppressed/whatever, and then show how international opinion of the US has dropped under Bush, how Bush has made "them" hate us even more. Quote military people expressing doubts about our ability to respond to new threats right now, how the military is stretched thing, etc. For every reason he gives, you can put up a flyer next to it explaining why he's wrong.
Keep it civil, keep it clean - even if he doesn't - and I'm sure the rest of your hall will enjoy it as well. Who knows, you might change someone's mind without even knowing it.

10. He's a Bushbot because he hasn't thought about anything |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-06-04 10:56 AM by Warpy
and from his actions, he doesn't plan to. He's one of those "yay, team" types whose aim in life is to piss off the opposition.
Tell him he's got your attention, and if he defaces any more messages on your whiteboard, he's gonna find out what happens to an antiamerican punk who tries to crush somebody else's right to free expression.
(I'm sure you can think of something involving the type of blue ink that will wash out if you wash the clothes more than once or liquid that will eventually dry from the middle of his mattress.)
You can't reason with these people, they're allergic to dry facts.
This guy may be a politically disconnected doofus who is blindly following everything his mom and dad told him, but he's still acting like a thug and a bully. You're going to need to put a stop to it now, or it will escalate.

11. Befriend him, invite him for a beer ... |
|
...listen to his point of view.
Then one day when you're out, take him down to your local Army recruiters and have him tell the recruiter how wonderful he thinks the war is.
If he supports Bush and he ain't in Iraq, then he's an unpatriotic, yellow-bellied coward. Never let him forget it either.

I can't find it, but it's just about perfect for this kind of thing Then you can always print out one of these and stick it to his door every morning: (warning, graphic content) http://www.einswine.com/atrocities/iraq/?pic=166

13. Use The Practical Approach |
|
Invite him out for a few drinks, and dinner. Burn a fatty with him and engage in a discussion pointing out the con's (there are no pro's) with him. And if he still does not come to reason, drive him to a remote location, kill him, and dispose of his body. (Don't forget to retrieve any cash from his wallet, to cover your expenses for the evening)

15. Wow, I walk down to the sub to get breakfast and there's this many replies |

Thanks, DU! :hi:
See, I never would have thought of any of this. I particularly like ant's idea about a debate-via-whiteboard (it's freakin' tiny, though ;_; ). I was going to write "If you can't think of a reason to support B*sh other than simplistic and inane catch phrases, you should probably re-evaluate your choice" anyway when I posted a factlist or something. :) The enlistment form idea is also good (although I think I've got too much of a conscience to actually risk some poor uninformed yahoo sending himself off to die somewhere), and the get-him-drunk idea too, except that I think I'm the only non-freshman in this entire hall aside from the RAs. :)
But yes, thanks a ton DU. :D

16. Feel free to update us |

College is a great time to take ideas and philosophies out for a walk. This is an invaluable time to engage someone in a little critical thinking about the choices he or she is making. Us old folks are just going to be fighting the cat for scraps before we see what kind of cancer we get. You younger folks are going to have to live a lot longer with the brutal consequences of another four years (God forbid) of a Bush administration.

day might make him think too. There is so much good information about Bush here at DU and you can always back up your posts with a good source. You shouldn't run out of facts about the real Bush up until the election.
