Bumperstickers and yardsigns - conundrum
I've been a $ and vocal supporter of Kerry from the party nominations. That is until he said he would've also invaded Iraq (in not so few words). That position completely frosted me, and as a result I removed my 'Veterans for Kerry' bumpersticker from my truck. Turned out that at about the same time my wife (w/o having discussed the issue w/each other) did the same w/ her Kerry bumpersticker, for the same reason.

We are now firmly back in the "Anybody but Bush" camp (where we were a year and half ago). Refusing to endorse Kerry by name because of his position on Iraq. We'll work to defeat Bush but we won't work affirmatively to help Kerry. See the problem?

To make things worse, MoveOn has failed to send us the dozen "Defend America, defeat Bush" bumperstickers that we ordered a couple of months ago.

Unfortunately, this seems to be the predominant sentiment among my neighbors (who are all pretty much old lefties). Can't find a bumpersticker anywhere w/ Kerry's name on it.

Any suggestions as to help defeat Bush but not endorse Bush-lite-smarter or the "N" word?

Gyre

1. Kindly provide a link to where Kerry said he would have invaded Iraq?
My understanding is that he said he would have voted for the resolution but that he would have done EVERYTHING differently.

2. Please leave your Kerry bumper stickers on
For the sake of the life of my son, all our sons and daughters, There is a post on the board about the article in Time about the haw Luti who says the administration will be more aggressive and make "preemption" a policy towards 6 more countries. Kerry will have the world behind him, we will not have to go it alone any longer. He knows the horrors of war. Please

3. Simple thing, this
If you don't endorse Kerry, you get Bush.

And Kerry would have only invaded if the inspectors hadn't been allowed to complete their work.

Remember this: * drove them out. Kerry would have demanded Iraq comply with the UN resolution, but I don't believe he would have slashed taxes and waged a rapid assault war without proper planning and without waiting for UN weapons inspectors to finish.

He would not have asked Colin Powell to lie to us.

He would not be asking every "official" in every office of the federal gubment to lie to the American people on a daily basis.

I get so angry at the pie-in-the-sky types who think some magical candidate is going to fall out of the sky.

Today, you support Bush. Or you support Kerry. If you support Bush, even if only by NOT supporting Kerry, you are stupid and shortsighted and more interested in your own egotistical desire to be "above the process" than to do what you CAN do to affect change.

Sorry for the rant, but this is the fight of our lives and if you are going to sit on some imaginary fence, get the hell out of the way. You are useless to this country.

5. If you would refuse to support a candidate
based on what some nameless, faceless internet poster said to you, then you, my friend, do not need to live in a Democracy. Make your decisions based on the candidate, not on some will-o-the-wisp emotion you get from a discussion board.

12. It is not really that simple
While Kerry is certainly considerably better than Bush, I found the "out-hawk the Republicans" posture of the DNC disgusting, and Kerry's tolerance thereof disturbing (particularly if it is not consistent with his true beliefs).

I seem to recall that the phrase "You are either with us or against us..." was used by Bush in support of his invasion of Iraq. I certainly hope we're better than than the black and white thinking that has gotten nearly 1000 of America's young men and women and countless more Iraqi citizens killed, and has stretched relations between the USA and our allies to the breaking point.

I will mark my "X" by Kerry/Edwards on election day. I will probably even put Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers on my car and a yard sign on my lawn. These acts are merely an acknowledgment that Kerry is the only individual likely to be able to defeat Bush, as I cannot truly support Kerry at this point.

It seems to me that telling folks in the ABB camp that they are against Kerry and "Bye" is counterproductive. A mark in the Kerry column on election day will help put Kerry into office - whether it was an ABB vote or a true vote for Kerry. Bumper stickers and yard signs touting ABB also further that goal.

7. Kerry did not say he would have invaded Iraq
Someone campaigning for Kerry when pressed said yes, he probably would have invaded Iraq. Kerry denouced the statement within 24 hours and reiterated again his position to have handled the whole Iraq fiasco different from President Bush.

You were duped by media and republican talking points.

Our local Dem HQ has literally gone through a couple thousand of these signs. We had them printed at a local print-shop.

11. So, Now Your Commitment Is Only Half Of What It Was?
It seems to me that Anyone But Bush is only half of a commitment to dethrone the idiot. If you really want to get rid of him you have to do one of two things, either support Kerry or Support Nader, but you may not do either of those things to the detriment of the other to accomplish your goal. In other words you can support Nader and you can persuade others to support Nader, but it will only accomplish your purpose of the other person you get to support Nader is currently supporting Bush, not if that person is a Kerry supporter.

14. It's useless to support Nader, IMO.
He can not win. There is no way for him to win. He is not even on the ballot in Ca, he didn't collect enough signatures. LOL.
The only alternative to Bush is Kerry in the real world in which we live.

Anybody but Bush means only one thing-Kerry.
There is no alternative.

15. Do Nothing. Then your Soul will be clean.
When Bushler gets a running start at the 1,000-Year Bush Reich, you can say "Well, I didn't like John Kerry because he didn't jibe with me line-item for line-item, but at least i didn't support Nader or vote for Bush...It's not my fault, it's KERRY'S fault, for not being EVERYTHING I wanted him to be..."

Sorry, but you "Oh, what to do? What to do? The slated candidate is not 100% to my liking" people really frost my balls.

You have 2 choices, IMO. Bush, or Kerry.
