Could Kitty Kelly's book have the same effect as the Swift boat ads?
Couldn't the odds now be even. Kitty Kelly's book could really ask some tough questions the Bush team will be forced to answer. Why not? There are people out there who believe the Swift Boat lies w/out asking for proof, why can't Kitty Kelly's claims do the same?Just wondering!

1. Unless she has proof and not just gossip to back up her assertions
her book is just going to be regarded as tabloid nonsense and treated as such. Even if she HAS proof her book will probably be treated as trash by the whore media.

2. No, not unless she bashes a democrat.
But it will have an effect, just not a very significant one.

3. Theoretically. But Breaking It Down
1) In the popular culture, she is a FORCE. 2) The swiftbots were powered by the cable yak universe.

The cable yakkers, who take themselves so seriously, will pooh-pooh her as being a MERE "gossip" writer and as writing "trash".

These two dismissive phrases will be unloosed on her by them just as they often come up in the threads about her HERE. Often the qualifier "unfounded" is added, as in "unfounded gossip".

I'm making a mantra of these two phrases: In the dictionary there is NO------repeat NO---connotation of "untruth" to the word "gossip". Quite the contrary, the words "facts" and "report" are used, with the subject of "gossip" being "intimate" and "sensational" (facts/reports).

As for those saying she writes TRASH---------no, her subjects perform TRASH. She writes down the trash THEY do.

4. It should
Even if her book is a bunch of unsubstantiated rumor, it has exactly as much value as Swift Boat Liars for Bush: none. The media spent weeks throwing out the accusations of this group of throroughly discredited liars. If there's any fairness, they will give the same amount of time to any wild, baseless accusations against Bush.

6. "unsubstantiated rumor" ??? give me a BREAK please...
KK has taken on Sinatra and and Nancy Reagan w/o being challenged on her facts...

you may not like KK's style but don't smear with "unsubstantiated rumor" when you're clearly under-informed on KK's reputation and history.

8. Read things more carefully before you go off like that
I said even if it's unsubstantiated rumor. I don't know if it is or not. It may very well all be true. My point is what it has been all along: that a street bum saying Bush planned 9/11 deserves as much coverage as Swift Boat Liars for Bush, because he has exactly as much credibility. I don't know how true the accusations in Kelley's book are. I'm saying it doesn't matter. If the media are going to give weeks to the swift boat hacks, anyone bashing Bush deserves weeks to push their accusations.

Calm down, read what I wrote.

7. Too Tabloidish
Kelley's book is more about sensationalism then hard facts. Only die-hard Tabloid readers going to read the entire book and be convinced it is all true.

11. Alrighty Then, Definition of "Sensational"
Edited on Tue Sep-07-04 04:19 PM by UTUSN
There is nothing in the dictionary definition that makes "sensationalism" the enemy of "hard facts".

13. "Only die-hard Tabloid readers"
In other words, about 60% of the Repug Party, i.e. that portion of the party that drives rustbuckets that have the bumpers held on with Bushbot stickers.

10. Only if Fox and CNN emphasize it.
As we should all know by now, Republicans don't read, and "Undecideds" are more often than not just apathetic.
