However, it's expected to weaken some as it enters the Gulf.
AND, my local news has now included Louisiana in the areas that should be paying attention. I'm not looking forward to what this storn could do to Atlanta, but I'm really concerned about a potential N.O. landfall.
Landfall expected by Wed or Thurs.

1. hope this fucker breaks apart somehow |

somewhat relieved that my parents (in Venice FL) look safe gut, a potential N.O. hit is very very scary...
and this *could* be the beginning of a 20-30 year period of increased hurricane activity?
would that mean the end of anyone living in FL except for the very rich who could afford the insurance and/or building fortresses?

2. I hope I didn't overstate the case for New Orleans |

It was in the far left part of "cone of uncertainty" area -- but it WAS in there, for the first time of any of the coverage I've seen. Hell, they're still not sure whether it's going to hit Cuba dead on-- and there was a time when Cuba was a "certainty" nearly. So the situation is still very fluid. There's even a chance it could sorta boomerang off the western tip of Cuba and veer right, right on over to central FL again.
I guess it's safe to say, "we don't have a clue, really." This to me is the most frustrating, to have so much uncertainty as the hours grow shorter. All we know is "itsa comin'" -- but to where?? Aaaargh. Maddening.

3. While the map still shows FL panhandle as most likely location, the |
|
computer models and probability charts show NO as just as likely as Panama City. Very, very scary storm.

safe and sound in the boring flatlands of northern illinois, it's always nice to see the decision not to move southward justified.

6. That's pretty callous of you with regard to those who WILL be |

affected. I'm a little taken aback.

there will be some very serious flooding. Once the waters get too high they’ll break the levees in the poorer parts of town to try and save the rest. I used to live there and they’ve done that before.
