"Outed" on another web site - sad sign of the times.... |
|
I frequent a gardening web site, which has rules about letting politics creep in. Recently, in an off topic conversation thread, someone from Texas posted that "someone that is a respected tomato enthusiast is actually smearing the good name our president...he is unpatriotic...you should see the dirt he is posting - at somewhere named DU..."etc etc.....I sent a note to the gardening page web master, who removed it at once, and the poster got a very nasty email from me. I know that many of those who frequent that garden site are very conservative and strong * supporters, but would rather not know!! And I would rather that they don't develop a negative opinion of me as a person simply based on political choice. It is a sad time indeed.....

I'm under the impression that one can't edit one's id. Do you just re-register under the new id?
BTW, that was a creepy thing for the bush-lover to do. These guys don't seem to have any morals, strangely enough.

13. Yes, Google seems likely. |

Using the same screen name in different places can have side effects.
If you don't mind me asking, did you email anyone here, by some chance?

I'd wager the person who tried to 'out' you probably posts over at Free Republic, and bragged about it on FR to much backslapping and 'good job, man.'
Worst part of it is, as you say -- you don't want to discuss political issues on that board, and you don't bring it up yourself because you don't want to know the political affiliations of the other people there. The wingnut mentality doesn't believe in that stuff. To hell with letting you be free to say what you want to say without retribution, they don't even want you to think it, or express it elsewhere.
Pathetic, and maybe what I've seen posted elsewhere is right -- they're frightened because their hegemony over what we all think may be about to end, at least for a while.

It's nobody's business on a tomato board what your other interests are. Just say you never even heard of Democratic Underground.

man, they are worried!
Worried and down to 2 tactics: Lies and intimidation. Seems to be the sum total of their skills, tactics, policies. It is what the junta used to get the OK to use force abroad, to get the suspension of rights via the Patriot Act, to get media to spin their way... It is the distillation of Cheney's speeches. It is the method of their hate-talk radio and it is the only method of their followers, desparate to avoid having to admit their leaders are crooks.
Lies and intimidation. Very sad and not very brave at all.

You are to be proud! It is silly when someone says "but, but, but, he is a DEMOCRAT." Be proud of it. So what if most are repugs. Be proud!

20. Time for a "teachable moment" |
|
in the form of a post that describes how folks of differing philosophies - can come together in a third area of common interest, and how that philosophy, which has absolutely nothing to do with the common interest, should be of no interference. Throw in how great it is to be among people who do not judge on other issues, but who just love to talk gardening... Share the appreciation of being accepted for who one is on the board (and accepting others in the same way) rather than a one-dimensional cardboard cut-out whose only defining feature is a vote for president...
Would bet that most folks, regardless of political philosophy, would be charmed (and a little irritated at the nutjob that forced your hand to even have to compose such a note.)

May his tomatoes turn black. May they shrivel on the vine. May they be attacked by thrips and whiteflies. May they be covered with scabs and scale. May they drop prematurely from the vine. May they be as small and hard as crabapples. May they taste like sour grapes.
