HEADS UP! Gays under direct attack in GA -- Nov. 2 ballot info
Just received the following in my email from the former head of Georgians for Dean. I can't speak highly enough of this ultra-talented young man who, if you can believe it, once upon a time graduated from Liberty (now Regent) University.

As some of you may know, the state legislature passed a Constitutional measure this year known as SR595 that was popularly known as the "Gay Marriage Amendment". This measure will be shown as Amendment 1 on your ballot on November 2nd. But there's some things you need to know about this amendment.

1. The language on the ballot is a "Summary Statement" and is not the actual amendment. The statement talks about the "definition of marriage" and mentions nothing about the parts of the full amendment, known as the Hidden 100 Words.

2. The part of the amendment you won't see, the Hidden 100, is going to lead to some devastating things in Georgia - listed below.

3. A similar measure passed in Virginia earlier this year has forced gay and lesbian couples and families to leave the state because of the effects of the Hidden words.

We're under attack by the Chrisitian Coalition, who backed and lobbied for this amendment. Here's what we stand to lose.

Part B of the Amendment which you won't see on the ballot will:

1. Deny ANY legal relationship between members of the same sex. This endangers current powers of attorney, wills and other arrangements already in place

2. Put Domestic Partner Benefits including health insurance (which I personally have) at risk especially those offered by counties and other municipal entitities.

3. Put 2nd-parent adoption arrangements under legal question

4. Parents who currently have custody and visitation rights will now be called into question because they are gay or lesbian or just same-sex.

5. Deny gays & lesbians the right to visit your injured or sick partners in the hospital.

6. Invalidate any out-of-state marriages, unions, domestic partner unions and powers of attorney.

7. Deny all gays and lesbian the rights to inheritance without full taxes meaning you won't be able to will your home or property to someone of the same sex without considerable tax assessments.

This is only the beginning, the Christian Coalition will be back in full-bully form next year for more. Gays and lesbians are the new punching bag for the religious-crazy right. We HAVE TO FIGHT.

I've joined Georgians Against Discrimination, the campaign to defeat this Amendment and stop Sadie Fields and the Christian Coalition from using us for political gain under the disguise of "God". Please join me by clicking the link below and signing up for our campaign. You'll get weekly updates from me about the campaign and what we need to do to stop these fascist idiots in their tracks. We have to fight now and I need you to join with me.

3. Similar Thing Happening in Michigan
The difference is that in this case, they ARE printing the amendment on the ballot as written. It says:

"To secure and preserve the benefits of marriage for our society and for future generations of children, the union of one man and one woman in marriage shall be the only agreement recognized as marriage or similar union for any purpose."

However, it has been said that this will also prevent some places that already extend benefits to same-sex partners (University of Michigan, for example) from doing so. And I have a very bad feeling that the text of this amendment will mean that it goes through.

It disturbs me greatly to see hatred and discrimination written into constitutions whose purpose is to uphold liberty and equality for all.
