Does Randi Rhodes think AWB will divide Democrats? |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 03:13 PM by derby378
Listening to her right now...
Randi calls the AWB "a successful ban on a certain kind of weapon that was so repugnant" that no living ex-President wants them on the streets. She's also afraid, it appears, that some folks want to use the AWB debate to siphon Democratic votes away from Kerry.
Is Randi really that afraid that we'll lose our coherence? I'm for Kerry until the bitter end. I suspect y'all are, too. We want the PATRIOT Act gone, the Medicare "reforms" nullified, and Abu Ghraib emptied - for starters. I think we're all agreed here. And Kerry's our only chance of making these things come to pass.
Will we still squabble about re-banning "assault weapons?" Probably - especially if the House and Senate both turn majority Democrat in 2004. But that's okay. Even when I was a Republican, I strongly believed in the need for dialogue between different points of view. But right now, my main concern is to get Bush out and Kerry in. I want our nation back in the right hands - ours.

1. How do you propose getting rid of the Patriot Act with |
|
Kerry Edwards?
They both voted for it and Edwards wants to strengthen it.

4. You think Bush would weaken it? |
|
At least Kerry and Edwards might listen to the people they're supposed to answer to. Bush never will - remember, he disobeyed a direct order while in the National Guard.

2. all three NRA dems can go vote for Bush if it's that important to them |
|
and good riddance.
Single issue voters aren't real dems anyway. (hold on, let me put on my fire jacket before the flame throwers start)

3. Randi is aware that fringe issues are the main issues |
|
Gay Marriage, Right to Bear Arms, Abortion, Flag Burning, Prayer in Schools
These are the issues that are going to be raised by the Bush Administration while the other minor items Such as WAR, ECONOMY, HEALTHCARE are ignored as non-essential.
Why? Because the politician's believe that even though these are fringe issues, the people who focus on these issues believe in them more strongly than the main issues and can be used to get a vote or two.
You will find a democrat who supports gays, chooses pro life, supports freedom of speech, and wants his darn gun. If Bush doesn't sign the weapons ban, it sends a clear signal to that democrat that he will get to keep his gun (and that may be more important to that person than anything else when he votes in Nov).
