This country music loving, gun toting, NRA member hunter says he won't vote for Kerry because he wants to ban assault rifles. My friend says he is an environmentalist, so I will point out the fact that Kerry also hunts and wants to protect the natural world. I could also find some pics of Kerry shooting, but I don't know how to deal with the assault rifle issue. I have read it was bad legislation that didn't do much. If that is true, it still doesn't give me a good answer. I am not trying to start a debate on the merits of the ban, just to convince him Kerry's position is a good one.

Then steer the conversation to the way bush is destroying this country. Tax breaks for the rich while softening environmental policy is a good start. You can't change your friends mind on guns, but the enviroment and his pocket book may get his attention.

Tell him that the court as it is constituted right now is less likely to result in any change either way. Four more years of Bush means more Scalias and Kennedys. This must be stopped. Those guys back up corporations at any cost and are not too big on civil liberties.
