my daughter is 18 and wants to vote for Kerry. She IS registered in St.Lucie County but has had to move back in with us in Palm Beach county. She is unsure what she and her husband should do to vote in November. There are two Kerry voters sitting here unsure if they will be able to vote.We need every vote,as we learned in 2000 here in Florida. Please advise....

3. She has to go vote in the place where she is registered to vote.
Then her vote will be counted.

4. she can either
1) keep her registration in St. Lucie County and request that an absentee ballot be sent to her in Palm Beach County

or

2) change her address from St. Lucie County to Palm Beach County and vote in person in Palm Beach County.

There are deadlines for both requesting absentee ballots and for changing your address, so I would do one of these things soon.

6. If she changes her address, she will still have to register to vote at
the new address, and there might not be a lot of time left.
You can call board of elections and find out what to do, but it has to be done soon. For instance, in Oh, there is only 10 more days one can register to vote, so, don't delay!

10. where I am, you can do
both at the same time (same piece of paper). Anyway, no matter what she does, I would recommend looking into it quickly--only 6 weeks to the election!

8. A phone call to St Lucie Board of Elections should take care of it.
That is all my son (going to school in NY) had to do to get an absentee ballot from Orange County.

7. may be able to vote about 3rd week in october in person by
absentee ballot.

here in va I can go from oct 18th to oct 30th and vote

having a ballot mailed to you, you take the chance it doesn't get there

So contact the municipal center or who ever is in charge of voting in the city she was registered to vote in.

If she is not registered to vote anywhere, that needs to be done right away. The deadline for that is oct 1, 2, or 3 depending on your state.

So make some phone calls or go to the websites to get the information.

11. If they want to register in Palm Beach county
and vote there, this website should be useful:
http://www.pbcelections.org/

If they want to vote absentee in St. Lucie county this website will be useful.

http://www.slcelections.com/

If their permanent residence is in St. Lucie I would vote there absentee. Otherwise they will need to re-register there when they go home.

My advice is to vote absentee - I'm doing it that way just because my county uses Diebold machines.

15. just double checking
In Michigan if you registered to vote by mail, you can't vote absentee in your first election - you have to go to the polls to show ID.

Or if you registered in person, and showed an official ID then, you can vote absentee your first time.

I just want to make sure you have that angle covered - not to nag you or anything, but I know a lot of college kids get registered, leave town for school, and find out they aren't allowed to vote. I don't know the Florida rules.
