telling the stories of "the struggles, issues and successes of Iranian women" . . .http://www.womeniniran.org/english/About Us In early 2002, when we got together to do something for women, for ourselves, we thought the best way would be to establish an NGO that would be functioning very differently from similar organizations. This was the reason we attempted to register the "Protectors of Women's Right Association" (PWRA). But before embarking on our mission to register the organization, and in order to get to know the issues in a more scientific and collective way, we started monthly book reading meetings. Before you know it, it was the International Women's Day! In honor of 8th of March, we organized an open discussion meeting with the theme of "Women's Feelings towards Their Sexuality" in the central branch of public library (2002). The attendance in this event was very much out of our wildest imagination. Then, the registration of PWRA got into obstacles and delays. Some of us, who were more determined, decided to start a new effort with less red tape. The result is this web site that started its work in August, 2002.
The Women in Iran web site tries to open a window, however small, to the life of Iranian women -- this always hidden half of our society. This web site, with the slogan of "Women's Right Is Human Right", tries to tell the story of struggles, issues and successes of Iranian women, and in this way we would like to extend our hands to and welcome all those who believe in the social and intellectual equality of women and men.
