How the rest of the world views George Bush and his UN speech: |
|
This is from Al Jazeera news: "US President George Bush has defiantly told the United Nations that the invasion of Iraq was justified and has demanded more UN help to end the deadly chaos there." For the entire article: http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/8C7D7999-D952-4122-A6EE-C7E884CC8454.htm

is hardly the rest of the world. And fair or not, most Americans would probably discount the message because of the messenger.

2. I also look at BBC and other international news sources and |
|
they do pretty much say the same thing. They all report a lack of applause following the speech. I think looking at Al Jazeera is important because it does give us a better idea of the mind set of others. And, the BBC is reporting that most foreign countries support Kerry over Bush.

9. I think it's still important to step outside of ourselves |
|
and take a look at how the world sees us. Yes, their opinions are skewed based on their experiences and their culture, but I believe it's worth a look just the same.
I watched the French feed of the news at the beginning of this war and was absolutely fascinated at their perspective on the war.

11. I think Al Jazeera is a nice conter balance |
|
I appreciate the perspective of a source that represents the perception of reality by a very large number of people. Life isn't based on reality but perception of reality anyway - its important to be aware of how things are reported in the ME.

People who post knee-jerk responses to valid news stories do tend to get discounted, yes.

3. An editorial in the NYTimes said he dropped a lead balloon on those |
|
whose help we desperately need.
...(Instead of) tak(ing) advantage of this one last chance to appeal to an increasingly antagonistic world to help the Iraqis secure and rebuild their shattered nation and prepare for elections in just four months. Instead, Mr. Bush delivered an inexplicably defiant campaign speech in which he glossed over the current dire situation in Iraq for an audience acutely aware of the true state of affairs, and scolded them for refusing to endorse the American invasion in the first place.
Wake up, America! Time for new leadership!

With this common comment :"He talked to the American voters".
We don't listen to him because he is without any interest and we are only waiting for the election. Then we'll know if the American people will choose definitively to change of society or not
