...The right wing and Bush campaign tell us that what happened 30 years ago is irrelevant to this years campaign. This is not what they felt when the attention was focused on John Kerry’s medals but now that the question is, “Did Bush do his duty?” they want it all swept under the rug. I disagree but think the focus of the question is not whether Bush did his duty but how he got in that position in the first place. Bush gained his position in the guard through the influence of his father and wealthy friends. He has spent his entire life living off of the privilege these people could garner for him. He knows no other way and in fact sees nothing wrong with the wealthy looking out for one another at the expense of the less privileged. He has shown this throughout his presidency by returning the favors asked of him by the patrons who served him as he made his way through life. Bush has brought back to America the class system of nobles and serfs that the American Revolution threw out 228 years ago. Four more years of Bush will allow him to solidify what he has begun. Bush believes that there is a class meant to serve and a class to be served, the Iraq war exemplifies that nicely. How many voters are going to be duped into sacrificing their sons and daughters because Bush hides this belief well and comes across to them as a regular guy?
They haven't printed the last few I have written. I hoppe this meets with more success.

1. I have a suggestion... |

Your letter makes some fine points but it would be helpful to break it into paragraphs. Also, your word count is high. Newspapers prefer you to keep it under 150 words, so it's best to edit yourself first. Increases the likelihood of publication.
That said, my letters to the NYT haven't been published either. Yet :)

2. Your point is very good |

But your letter is somewhat rambling and wordy. You need to tighten it up and cut out unneccessary words - it's a letter, not an essay. You could say the same thing more powerfully with about half the words and it would hold the interest much better.
