Protester At Cheney Rally Surprised By Emotion

An anti-Cheney protester holds up a sign in front of police in Oregon City.

<snip>

EUGENE, Ore. -- A woman who was escorted out by security guards after protesting at a Eugene rally headlined by Vice President Dick Cheney last week said she was only intending to ask him about the draft.

But emotions overtook her, 54-year-old Perry Patterson told The Register-Guard in Eugene.

"When he said, 'We've made the world a safer place,' I just had this primal need to say 'No!' at the top of my voice," 54-year-old Perry S. Patterson said. "I was surprised at myself that I let loose like that, but I did."

Patterson said that while she is a registered Democrat, she's not an activist and has never protested or demonstrated at a political event.

Just regular folk, trying to engage in the political process... and getting arrested!

:grr:

14. How can you trespass at a public event?
Everytime these people get arrested, the charges get dropped after the Bush clan leaves town. The charges are bogus and I want to know why this isn't being vigorously pursued. I read something a week, or two, ago the ACLU had filed a lawsuit for some of these people, but this is outright bullshit. As Steve Earle says, "Democracy don't work that way. I'm living in the mutha-f*cking USA!"

We are paying these bastards' salary. (Of course, they don't need it because they've stolen so much money from us already, but that's besides the point.) They are OUR representatives and they want to lock us up when we speak our minds?

18. Some paper/TV (?) are saying they are checked out as only party
I can not recall which one, but it may have been local. Maine or Alaska. I was reading those papers yesterday. So if you are asked if your a Republican you are talking to people who usually like what you say. I know I do not need to say that, but how did she get in? That is the interesting part.

12. A better question is whether anyone has actually been prosecuted?
What is the crime? I mean, couldn't this woman argue that she had Tourette's and might screech out inappropriately in public? I certainly would fall back on that defense, then sue the shit outta Cheney for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Cheney you, ya big fat crooked lip!

who have been arrested for simply expressing an opposing view. This country is out of control, pure and simple.

9. AFAIK, the woman who was kicked at RNC
is being charged with multiple offenses, among them, inciting a riot.

AFter reading what transpired after these protesters took off their pro-Bush camoflage and stood on chairs in order to hold up AIDS awareness signs, rethugs shook the chairs from under them after which the SS arrested them. So it seems, if you hold up an anti-Bush sign in 2004 America, you are 'inciting a riot' and will be charged with a felony while those who physically assault you are blameless. x(

10. It's insane, I keep reading more and more
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 02:25 PM by FrustratedDemInNC
stories about these arrests that started shortly after * was selected into office. The increase since 9/11 is dramatic, thanks to the Patriot Act. I don't know what it will take to wake this country up, signing loyalty oaths just to see your current leaders and being arrested for voicing a complaint when you have just lost a child while in combat. This is crazy, what happens if he wins this election or steals it? We will all be silenced.

I guess we will just wait for the FBI to knock on our doors for voicing dissent on a message board. People are being falsely accused of crimes without the benefit of an attorney and we can't do anything to stop it. I want my country back.

13. About Perry's primal needs
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 09:42 PM by SpiralHawk
Truth - ultimately -- is irresistable. I applaud her.

America would do well to follow the Pathway of Primal Needs she is blazing. "No. No to all your 5 deferment/AWOL bullshit and spin. No More Lies. America is being recklessly endangered by the fantasies and distortions of Cheney-BushCo. No more Republican profiteering off the lives of our young soldiers, to make oil and contract megabucks for corporate Mercenaries. No. No to the whole pack of crap."

15. Ick
Was going to post a few links to cases, but when I googled "bush protester arrested" I got almost 36,000 hits. So I decided I didn't really have the time to go through and list out all the individual ones.

Bush must go. He is the worst President we have ever had and the greatest threat to our freedoms and continued prominence in the world.

Yesterday, Cheney was in Northwest Ohio and I live near the airport. I went running through the park that is near the airport and every time a plane flew overhead, I flipped off the plane, just in case it was his! Ha! Not very ladylike, but I can't help it. I was surprised by my emotion!

Edited to clarify exactly where Cheney was.
