I know this is going to sound dumb; however, I do not know what . . .
in the heck someone means when they talk about someone being a "Kool-Aid Drinker?"

I have heard that on Randi's show at least 50 times today and I do not have a clue. I have heard other people use the phrase as well.

It means something insulting though. I can tell by the tone people are using with it.

Anyone . . . ????

2. Refers to the Jim Jones/Peoples' Temple mass suicide in 1978
The poison was put in Kool-Aid.

Over 900 cult members drank the poisoned Kool-Aid; nearly all of them died.

13. That's the official explanation anyway
Many people think Jones was CIA and was conducting mind-manipulation experiments using all sorts of drugs and something went wrong. Who knows what happened? The official explanation is almost always a lie.

suicide via cyanide laced Kool Aid...Kool Aid drinker refers to someone so faithful they would follow another to their own demise.

5. it's either Jim Jones or Ken Kesey.....
I'm guessing Jim Jones......he was a cult leader who managed to kill his entire following by gettign them to drink poisoned kool-aid.

6. Its a Jim Jones reference...
The wacko that convinced hundreds of people to drink cyanide-laced kool-aid back in the seventies. It now means the people who are mindlessly lapping up anything the Bushites are doling out...at least that's my understanding of the phrase.

7. It means they'll do/believe anything they're told, just like
the Jonestown Einsteins.

8. I would venture to say it comes
from the cult followers of Jim Jones who committed suicide by drinking laced kool aid in Ghayana in 1978 or 1979. I think it's a fancy way of calling someone a lemming. Someone who would follow Bush to their death before admitting he is wrong.

Anyone else?

9. I think it does go back to "Rev. Jones"
and it means someone who is a true believer (or blind follower). As in "he's drinking the repukes kool-aid" means he believes everything the repukes have to say without question.

11. Rev. Jim Jones...
"On November 18, 1978, Congressman Leo Ryan from San Francisco went on a fact-finding mission investigating alleged human rights abuses at Jonestown. After only a day at the jungle compound, a member tried to stab Ryan. The injury was minor, but Ryan decided to leave with his party and 18 temple members who wanted to to return to the United States. Other members of the cult followed the group to the airstrip and opened fire, killing Ryan, three journalists, and one of the departing members. Eleven others were injured.

Hours later, the good reverend ordered his followers to drink from a tub of grape-flavored Fla-Vor-Aid laced with potassium cyanide and tranquilizers. All 900+ did. Children died first; babies were killed by poison squirted into their mouths with a syringe. Then the adults. Most were poisoned, some forcibly. Some were shot by security guards. As the ritual suicide progressed, it is unclear whether Jim put a bullet through his brain, or someone did it for him."

900 followers drank the poison koolaid because Jones told 'em too.
The koolaid reference symbolizes mindless devotion...like freepers for shrub.
