How do you propose fixing the lazy, corporate, for-profit, tabloid media? |
|
Given that a critical media is such a critical part of democracy, what changes do you propose to fix our busted media?

3. Ohhh, I don't like the sound of that idea at all... |
|
... if the converse of "private ownership of media" is gov't owned media.
That's even worse, IMO.

publicly owned, with an elected commission from every state, guaranteed funding (cannot threaten to refuse money if the gov't doesn't like what they're doing) and no gov't intervention or regulation on programming (other than FCC obscenity laws, etc.)
edit: and yes, reinstate the fairness doctrine

9. Now that sounds frightening..... |

Even though it's not perfect, the more power in the hands of regular people, the better off we are.

more than one media outlet in any one market should do the trick. the problem with medias is they are now monopolies who worship the dollar.

When more and more viewers defect in droves to alternative news sources, maybe they'll get the hint.

7. Keep pushing the accuracy of the Internet.... |
|
Regularly, I read over 60 periodicals. In these there is no one answer. I feel the only hope we have is the Internet. But we must be vigilant in the policing of the accuracy of the Internet. We must not allow ourselves to copy the right wing when it comes to news.
By this I mean, the right uses words to manipulate, while we use words to educate. There is a huge difference. However, we must realize, and I think the reporter who pointed this out was Axlerod off of CBS - we must understand that the conservatives have learned to get their ideas over in very few words, while we still depend on long, lengthy sentences. Someone he talked to stated something like Bush is very important because he exists in a world of fast food like information.
