Gore never sighed in debates - facial expressions in response - out |
|
According to ABC, one of the things BFEE negotiated was to keep candidate';s facial expressions during the other one's speech off the camera. In 2000, as the Daily Howler proved, the media whores INVENTED Al Gore's infamous "sigh". This time they cam make up whatever they want about kerry's reaction - there'll be no way to prove the contrary. Expect it!

but his sighs were clearly audible.

2. I'm sorry. But I saw and heard those sighs. As did many others. I have |
|
a tape of those sighs. The media whores did not invent those sighs. Al Gore did.

|
I don't have any tapes, but I watched all the debates, and I remember hearing the sighs in the background, and wondering who in the world was doing that! THEN, the camera switched to show it was Gore. This was NOT invented!!

although, I don't know how to prove this other than asking President Gore, himself, but I read(don't remember where)that it was paul begala who suggested that Gore "sigh heavily" and "roll his eyes" at debates.
paul begala took over the handling of Gore's debates after Tom Downey had to recuse himself following the debacle of a bush practice debate tape being sent to Downey. Sound like a rove trick, now?

but the sighs were real.
And so were the sniffs from Bush. I thought they were more distracting.

obnoxious. Imagine that you're on a podium speaking and some bozo is sighing loudly while you're speaking. Not cool. The media didn't have to spin it for me. I was horrified as the event unfolded. I knew afterward that too much would be made about the sighing.
BTW, Welcome to DU!! :hi: :toast:

32. Me too! I saw it and thought "Oh my God, how can he do that?" |

They'll crucify him afterwards.
And they did.
Of course, the lies that GWB was telling were enough tomake anyone want to roll their eyes and sigh heavily.

8. They'll spin, either way |
|
It's OUR job to fight the spin. There's always an element of truth in spin. Gore and his sighing wouldn't have mattered if Dems hadn't helped spin it. Just like with the CBS memos, WE help them with their spin instead of fighting them. And call it "honest debate". It's stupidity is what it is. Then we blame our Dem politicians for not having a backbone. If we don't line up and fight whatever they throw out, together, we've already lost the debates and there's no point in having them.

A couple of years of Reagan was all I needed to know Republicans do not have the interest of American people at heart. I try to give them the benefit of the doubt, like I did with Gordon Smith. As with Smith, they blow it in my face every single time. They line up behind the smears and distortions and don't give a crap about anything except winning. They've destroyed this country and are set on making the world the same rich/poor shit hole. You can be all independent minded and smarter than the rest, but it doesn't mean squat when you're up against the spew of fall in line Republicans.

Why don't you name some Democrat 'dirty politics'. Bet you can't. In the meantime, I'm compiling a list of Repuke 'dirty politics' which will make your computer crash.
BTW, Repukes started the 'attacking President's kids' crap with their cruel and vicious attacks on Chelsea Clinton. When she was 14 years old. The Bush twins are 22 years old, adults, and campaigning for their father. They are fair game.

15. Baby killing is not "fluff" |
|
Bush is killing babies - go look at the photos from Iraq.
I understand that you are trying to be reasoned, and yes, throwing medals and falling off bikes do not necessarly equate to ability to govern. And people do have some fun with the puppet - it is comic relief from the devastating realities of this fanatic administration's policies and actions.
But do not include the very real deaths of children slaughtered by the insane acts of this administration in "fluff." They are real children, and they are really mangled, mutilated, scarred forever, orphaned, homeless, at risk of dying of preventable disease or treatable illness or depleted uranium - or really dead.

Wars don't "happen" or "break out" like some new flu virus. They are started. In this case, started based on lies and for political/economic gain.
"America attempts to keep the world safe" - come again? Safe for whom? For the multi-nationals? Certainly not for the US troops dying or the civilians they are killing. Certainly not for the oppressed poor or political opposition in the countries where we support savage dictatorships.
"I know we feed and give money to a lot of poverty stricken third world countrys." The US actually gives less foreign aide in terms of % than many other Western Industrial countries. You can look it up.
I don't know what is petty about calling a baby killer a baby killer. If being a "nice person" means using euphimisms to distort a reality that is costing children their lives for economic gain, I'll forgo nice for truthful.

29. 'conflict breaks out'??? |
|
'whatever President is unfortunate enough to be in office when a conflict breaks out'...??
Bullshit. This conflict didn't 'break out'. Bush* attacked a nation that was no threat to us. He started this war, and he has killed tens of thousands of innocent people, including many women and children.
What, did you think that Iraq just spontaneously combusted? Chimpy attacked, with no cause or provocation, and LIED about the reasons for the war.

19. I think you missed the point of the post... |
|
.. I doubt the poster was discounting the deaths of the children in Iraq. EVERYONE knows that they are dying over there in terrible numbers.. but the poster was using that, along with other inflammatory terms, to illustrate that sometimes you just vote for the one that can do the job. Sometimes the things like 'baby killer' actually turn off the mainstream voters, who are in the majority.

I refuse to believe so ill of my fellow citizens as to believe that they don't care that we are sending our troops off to bomb children and old people. When enough people named the Vietnam War for what it was it finally came to an end.

You represent, probably, the majority of voters. Sometimes I think all the slinging, the hyperbole, the name-calling, only excites those who are doing it.. Most times, people just pick the candidate that seems to be better at what is important to them. No hype, no drama. I really do think there are millions of voters out there just like you.. and that's a really, really good thing!

Reagan's "There you go again" was about as rude and contemptuous as you could get. He shook his head at Carter. How does this compare to Gore's sighing?

All of this is to take the focus off the content anyway. The current administration is doing everything it can to take the focus off of their failed policies. SERIOUSLY failed policies!

the mic was picking up the sounds. Those sighs were not meant for the listening audience's ears.
If John Kerry lets even a small accidental fart during one of these debates, the media will make sure it's heard around the world.
