Have you ever read (or seen) Airport?

Hi folks!

I was on a trip the last few days, and found that the new policy of the TSA is that everybody take off their shoes at the security check.

This caused me to think about an idea that had occurred to me when I recently re-read "Airport". In that novel, a destitute man intent on an insurance fraud/suicide plan makes a dynamite bomb and carries it onto an airliner, which only just barely manages to make a good emergency landing after he sets it off.

And I did some checking into the NTSB's records at one time, and there were airliner bombings in real life even before "Airport" was written.

So, the topic of discussion is; Why didn't we have this plague of terrorism much earlier? Were people actually that much less pissed off with the USA back then? (I suspect so, but have no way to prove it.)

The difference is that it's radical Islamist fundamentalists that are the biggest current threat. But Bush administration slyly uses the 'terrorist' label as freely as he does ff***.
