BBV- Ruling revives issue of paper trail for touch screen ballots
http://www.sptimes.com/2004/09/28/State/Ruling_revives_issue_.shtml

A federal appeals court on Monday revived a lawsuit challenging Florida's touch screen voting machines, renewing a rancorous debate over the lack of a paper trail just five weeks before the election.

(snip)

A federal judge in Fort Lauderdale threw out the lawsuit in May on jurisdictional grounds. But the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta said those grounds were baseless and ordered the judge to hear the case.

1. Randi Rhodes interviewed Wexler on Air America yesterday.
She is mighty proud of him, having Wexler be her congressman in Florida. He even said he would check on her FL home for her after the hurricanes went through.

Back to topic though, this is very good news since FL law requires a method to recount to votes after the 2000 debacle/coup d'etat. If you deny some counties paper, but others have it then there is a legitimate argument for a lawsuit. Wexler said that a "very" conservative 11th Circuit Court agreed with the merits of his lawsuit.

2. Shouldn't there be paper BALLOTS regardless--the power might be out!
With their recent weather and resulting lack of electric power, how can they rely on electronic machines anyway?

3. Could a higher power be sending FL a message? Power shortages are a legit
concern when talking about this very serious issue. Isn't democracy worth it?
