Which commandments have the protestors broken? |
|
Edited on Thu Aug-28-03 04:30 PM by a_random_joel
Does anyone know if the protestors protested (this is not resting)on Saturday (or Sunday for that matter)?
Does trivializing G-d in such a manner count as taking the Lord's name in vain? Doesn't G-D have bigger things to worry about?
I saw a large poster with the name "Y-hW-h" spelled out, which according to Jewish law, the source of the Commandments, is a violation. In fact, Jews are not allowed to speak this name, and commonly use alternate names such as "Adonai" to represent G-d. My question is, is this also not a violation of one or more commandments?
If one's parents did not agree with the protestor's stance on the issue, would they not be dishonouring their fathers and mothers?
If these folks are misrepresenting facts, are they not bearing false witness?
Anyone else care to contribute some thoughts on this?

protestors were laying down (bowing down) before the monument. I think that might violate this commandment:
2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

So what if there were some people exercising their right to gather and free speech. If it's their belief then I think they have a right to express themselves it's granted to them in the Constitution.
In Oregon we do this all the time granted it’s not to support a Granite Slab but if I can do it I do not see why someone else cannot.
The monument was removed and now people are concerned about those who supported it, why don't we do something productive like win an election.

Apparently you do not see the hypocrisy in that those who wish to violate the separation of Church and State are breaking the very code they are supposedly so determined to defend. If they canot get 10 little commandments right, how am I or any American supposed to trust that they can understand the sophistication of a document such as our Constitution?
The Separation of Church and State is a fundamental bedrock for our Democracy, and IMHO is just as important as the many other bedrocks that are being eroded like hmmm, I don't know - privacy violation, collusion between private interests and the Government, Election fraud, end around checks and balances, intimidation, bribery, extortion, witness tampering, etc.
All of these issues are divisive, yet relevant to the health and welfare of our Democracy. So let me ask you - why don't we do something more productive like win an election?

Aren't they in effect worshipping a graven image? And it may be OT, since you were talking about the Commandments, but didn't Christ Himself instruct people to "go into a closet when you pray," and condemn the Pharisees for praying in public because it's self-aggrandizing? And doesn't the Bible command that we obey the law except when doing so would be a sin? And the only way removing the stone is sinful is if the stone itself is the Lord, which goes back to "graven images."

both before the slab -- and in their ''faith in the bible'' -- they lock the spirit of the faith in stone. and worship the bible as though the bible was god. they have it all wrong.
