Cat Stevens parents were Greek Orthodox Catholic/Mother Baptist????
Go Figure! Yet he says he was searching for something and growing up in such a diverse counterpoint...he needed to seek looking at different ways of looking at this Universe and Science??? He said in his search he was given a copy of the Koran..and he gave it a look..

On Larry King on CNN EST...at 9:00

2. Yes, I once met Cat Stevens' father....
He ran (at that time, at least, early 1970s) a sandwich shop in north London. I was in there getting some lunch and the mailman walked in with a ton of mail for "your son".

While I looked interestedly at all the fan mail addressed to "Cat Stevens" at that address, his father explained to me. I told him I was a fan. And I was. He was a very nice man.

3. I think and thought always he was a "nice" man. I wonder how many folks
are villified and trashed today...who are at heart very "nice"men and women...with a moral center...that somehow isn't in "fashion" in their times.

Thanks for your personal experience about this. What I love about DU is that there's always someone who can personalize a thought or experience with a "snap shot" in time of their own experience to keep us on our toes. :-)'s

4. I was in my early 20s at the time....
and so was sort of .... (excuse me, this is going to sound extremely young) "Whoa, I'm shaking hands with Cat Stevens' father". I was and still am a fan. Because he insisted on it. I think my eyes bugged out when I saw the name on literally hundreds of envelopes.

And it was a good sandwich.

You're welcome for the personal experience. It obviously was memorable...even 30 years later.

5. I've been listening to him on Larry King..with one ear while posting...he
sounds very "diplomatic" and not like some "feako" Islamic Terrorist.

In contrast when I watch C-Span and their endless panels with RW PNAC featuring the Bush crowd of Perle, Wolfowitz, Wormser, Feith,Norqust and their various Libertarian "hangers on" whom I won't list...I get shivers down my spine at the venom they spew.

When I heard Cat drifting in on his interview with Larry King (puke king of whatever) I felt a very calming spiritual influence drifting in...maybe I should have posted this in the "Meeting Room Forum" here on DU ....but was surprised that Larry King (whom I NEVER LISTEN TO) would have Youssef Ibrahim aka Cat Stevens on his show..

I like the guy...he seems like a "real" dude to me? so trash me ?

6. I won't trash you.....
...even though I am not listening to the show.

Still a fan, after all these years.

7. I dunno..he seemed pretty shifty to me
When someone is lying they eyes look up and left (being creative). I see Bush do it all the time.

Anyway when Larry asked him (paraphrasing) why he thought he was being stopped he said he had no idea. It looked to me like he was lying.

Doesnt mean he is a terrorist of course, but its not as cut and dried as he wants us to believe.
