Have you ever stolen/vandalized a * sign?
Okay, honest answers please. I hope this won't lead to a mass arrest or anything ;) But seriously, when I was in high school, my friends and I used to ride around our conservative town late at night and steal all the Republican signs.

Have YOU ever stolen or vanalized a */Cheney sign? There is a small business near me that has * signs EVERYWHERE on their property (it's right on a main road too). On their "light up" sign (the kind where you can put letters on to spell stuff out) it reads:

Pro-Family
Pro-Life
Pro-Bush

It drives me insane. If I only had a paintball gun...I know it's immature and childish, but I have had dozens of Dem signs stolen over the years and am feeling the urge to fight fire with fire. Anyone else ever felt the urge to steal or deface the Shrub signs (or have you had the balls to do it)? Inquiring minds want to know ;)

1. Once.

I removed a "Garage sale" sign that was taped over a Gore/Lieberman sign. Not really defacing the sign bt I messed with it just the same.

If were younger and in your position I might find a remote hour of the morning to have a little fun with the sign with the letters on it a la Bart Simpson.

14. I can see that.

You could just "white out" some of the letters. How about:

Pro-Fa il
Pro-Li e
Pro-Bush

edit: stuck in some hyphens

3. I've been tempted to remove a Bush / Cheney 2004 yard sign near my house.
It went up recently. And, I drive by it every single day. It drives me nuts! I want to put a Kerry / Edwards sign nearby on an adjoining property.

:D

5. That's my problem...
Just *today* someone put up one of those HUUUUGE */C signs right near my house (the jumongous plastic-coated cardboard 6 foot by 6 foot ones).

God help me, I'm staying up late contemplating throwing paint on it. I'm as bad as the damn Republicans conspiring to deface their oppnents' signs *hangs head in shame*

4. I just really want to...
What about those signs on "public" property....

You know that front part right next to the road? Is it illegal to remove "trash" from public property, such as a park or city owned land next to a road???

I wanna know.

17. I would think so...
If someone said anything (cop), you could make a very good argument that it is trash and you're just being a concerned citizen cleaning up your environment :) It sure as hell is garbage to me!

6. My niece just played a trick on me.
She came to visit and walked thru the door saying that someone spray painted "fuck you" on my Kerry/Edwards sign. My mouth was open. I was just about to come and post on DU to report what happened. Then she told me she was lying.:spank: I was about to crack some skulls.:-)

7. Some kids who my neighbor called the cops on have stolen TWO
Bush/Cheney signs off his lawn...

I actually was sympathetic to him since I like him even tho we differ politically. Its wrong to take a sign off of private property.

And I won't, unless the asshole puts it over my sign. There are at least three BC04 signs in my neighborhood, compared with about 15-20 K/E signs. The Kerry signs have been stolen and torn up all over the neighborhood. I've had to replace five on my street alone, and four were taken from houses on a nearby street in a single night.

None of the BC04 signs appear to have been touched.

It's a small but telling aspect of the overarching reality of modern Republicanism. This is our enemy. They use intimidation, fearmongering, and hate to maintain power.

What is so sad is these people are nothing like the Republicans who raised me. If they were still alive they'd be disgusted.

9. I removed about a hundred
these were signs for congressional and senate seats in Colorado, posted on public land...they were an eyesore and when the elections are over only a few are picked up to teach the posters a lesson I removed them early and I loaded them in my jeep, this was in broad daylight and on a busy road and one concerned citizen stopped and wrote down my license number...I kept them until the elections were over in case I got a knock on my door...I took down both Dem and Repug signs and a few ballot issues...

11. No but I pass by a bunch of them every day on the way to and from work
And I am SOOOOOOOO tempted. I would never do it though. My Kerry sign has lasted a week now. Soon, we'll do our annual Halloween scarecrow "tableaux" in the front yard. In years past we've had anti-Wal-Mart scarecrows and Stop the War scarecrows. Planning this year's should be fun.

About the "themed" scarecrows, I mean :)

And I'm tempted, too. I just don't have the balls anymore. Plus, I can't stand touching them. Gives me goosebumps. **shudder**

13. In 1972 .....
there was a campaign poster with an ugly picture of Richard Nixon with the phrase, " Now, more than ever" My friend and I would arm ourselves with black marking pens, ingest a gram of hash (orally), and guzzle alcohol. Then we would sneak about town, writing "don't even elect this ass" on the posters.

I had forgotten that sad chapter in my life until reading your post. I hope that Mr. Nixon, where ever he is, will find it in his heart to forgive me. I'd also like to apologize to Pat Boone.

deface your own candidate's sign, then alert the media and write LTTEs about how despicable those other bastards are.

always comes out and I tell myself they have the same right to support their candidate and display their signs (even if they are idiots ;-) ) just like I do.

21. No one would see my signs in the deep woods
But we've had a sign war on one busy corner. I kept driving by a glaring */C sign, and as soon as I received a Kerry sign ( they are hard to come by) I placed it on that corner. Shortly thereafter, someone removed the */C sign. That bothered me, because someone might assume the Kerry signplanter( me) was responsible. A few days later, the Kerry sign disappeared. Then the * sign. Another * sign was put up. Again it was stolen ( mountain men HATE * with a passion, believe me). Another * sign was placed there. Now a new Kerry sign sits there, and after a local LTTE asked for both parties to be respectful, they are both on that corner.

Some local Kerry supporters have gotten gigunda Kerry signs in neighboring towns, to counter the gigunda * ones. They are a joy to behold! But someone also defaced our Dem Reps sign.

I don't lower myself to their level. We do plan a late night "Two-Face" pasting close to the election, but I don't want to give Bushites any ammo by messing with any of their ugly ass signs.

22. Hell, they're putting huge * posters right on freeway ...
... on ramps around here, I'd bet there's a law against that. Signs are not meant to be posted on those chain-link fences I'm certain. I hope the DOT takes them down soon.

25. I know they are SO UGLY
The Bush Cheney signs are like a used car salesman's banners. Ugly as hell. Whoever thought up that Fascist design should have considered the long-term appeal.

But the humongous Kerry ones are, well, attractive and cheery. The */C signs are dark, aggressive and intrusive, to me.
