So help, how hard is it to get a passport and what do you need and
have to have and where do you go to get one these days?

Just practicing that old, tired "Be Prepared" motto.

2. I got one last year
From what I remember I got the Passport photo done at a drug store (Walgreens in Iowa), a certified copy of my birth certificate, and took my driver's licence to the County Recorder's Office. Filled out the form and paid $65 (I think, I know the price was going up so that's why I got mine then).

Do a google search of your state name and city maybe and passport to find locations. It took a few weeks to get it in the mail. Get one now, if you ever get a chance to leave the county on quick notice you'll be glad you did.

3. I think the Post Office has info.
There are passport services that specialize in getting passports and cutting through the red tape....I use New England Visa services in CT.

I'm sure Googling can locate the application online. Remember, a passport is only good to get you out of this country, you may need to get visa's or other entrance approvals from the country(s) you may be visiting.

And we don't have political refugee status in the world....yet.

6. Mine was about $60 US..
They are very picky about the photo. I got mine at Kinkos. And I applied for it a the post office. It took about a month for it to come in the mail from the Department of State. They can't make them on the spot. I hope you don't need it ASAP. I think you can pay a fee to have them speed it up though. Good Luck.
