came to my mind. Would we still be here if Dumbya was in Kennedys shoes?

1. Well, Bush would let them set up the missiles...
...then get billions appropriated for a missile defense system, and pass the Patriot act to protect us from ourselves, and rule over us with fear and an iron fist.

3. Probably not. FratBoy would have attempted to invade Cuba....
A little-known fact is that he Soviet advisors in Cuba had the authority to launch the nukes already in Cuba. The Soviets would have hit the invasion fleet for sure, and possibly the port(s) from which it sailed.

Therefore, the U. S. invasion would have failed with great loss of life as well as most of the invasion fleet. That would have caused FratBoy to launch a nuclear attack on both Cuba AND the USSR.

The Soviets could NOT have retaliated from the silos in the USSR because they did not yet have missiles with the range to reach the U. S. mainland. But the remaining missiles in Cuba could have been launched before being taken out in the U. S. attack.

But the worst part of this scenario is what I call the "100 nuke rule". That rule states that if 100 or more nukes are fired off in one conflict, the resulting dust in the atmosphere would cause a nuclear winter. And that would just about eliminate all life on earth as we know it.

5. We owe as much to Krushchev as to Kennedy.
Cool heads prevailed over the military who wanted to invade Cuba. Kruschev and Kennedy basically traded missles in Cuba for missles in Turkey.

But, as another poster said, Smirk would probably invade Burkina-Faso or Bhutan - having been burned in Iraq. Or, maybe mighty Greneda again.
