I read the first 16 pages of the complaint, and all I can say is "holy hannah!"

apparently, O'Reilly tried to intimate that Bush-Cheney would have Al Franken "dealt with" during some drawn-out paranoid rant he went off on to the plaintiff.

I hope she bankrupts the fuckers. Doesn't sound like there's tons of corroborating evidence, though, which might make this a tough case.

They're the ones with the power, exercising it inappropriately towards a subordinate. "He who has the gold makes the rules." There are no doubt MANY former O'Reilly female employees who haven't spoken up.

Best advice I've ever read to stop sexual harrassment: "Yell and Tell." While it's happening, SCREAM your bloody lungs out so the whole building knows about it right then and there and then go around the office telling EVERYONE all the gorey details. Can you imagine the embarrassment on the part of the harrasser? Teehee.

Of course I realize there are times and situations where that approach won't work, but it's worth remembering.

The first real job I ever had, at the tender age of 18, I was sexually harrassed frequently. Of course, it didn't start right away. In those days it was kind of the rule that you didn't quit a job unless you'd been there for at least a year. Boy, when that 1-year marker got close, I got busy and found another job.

When I quit, the (then, to me) old woman who had been his bookkeeper for an eternity shook her head and said, "Louis just can't seem to keep secretaries for longer than a year."

In those days there was no WORD for what happened to me (sexual harrassment) -- this was 1967. The embarassment of WHAT happened combined with the embarrassment (actually, humiliation) of being unable to protect myself (and being unable to take care of yourself really is humiliating) prevented me from telling her why Louis couldn't keep secretaries. But I do remember, oh so vividly, my own eyes popping wide open when she said that: I wasn't the first and for damn sure would not be the last.

Fortunately, nothing like that ever happened to me again -- anything that came close was probably met with a drop dead look complete with daggars or whatever. Or maybe I just adopted some aura of "don't you dare." But it still goes on for too many women (one woman is too many), and men who engage in that type of thing deserve a realllly painful punishment (still feeling some rage here of that situation over 3 decades ago).

Lawsuit was filed under NY state law provisions in NY state court. Wonder if she filed an EEO complaint with EEOC that is still pending? Based on the allegations, this would violate federal EEO law, too, but she would have to complete the EEO complaint process and get a right-to-sue letter before being able to file under federal EEO Act. She could request the right-to-sue letter immediately, though.


Comment on the facts - (by the way, I hate Bill O and hope this is proven to be true and he pays out the ass). I just wonder why anyone would go back to work for such a jerk after being harassed as she describes. (Maybe needed money and didn't have other job offers?)
