We are a divided nation.

Half of us think we are safe with the leadership now in DC.

The other half feels unsafe because of that same leadership.

9/11 changed everything. And now it sits in the livingroom and only one dares speak it's name or look it dead in the eye. That one person who dares speak it's name is the same who opened the door for 9/11, invited it in and offered it a seat.

9/11 is the dividing line only a few dare cross, but cross we must if we are ever to be united again.

Kerry must acknowledge the elephant in the livingroom, cross the line, and use it to crush it's keepers.

1. 9/11 changed everything

You know, I am so sick of that statement. The only reason 9/11 changed everything is because the Bush administration USED it to change everything.

I read a chilling article the other day that was posted here - in it, an aide to Bush told the author that guys like him (the author) were "in what we call the reality-based community" which was described as people who "believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality." He went on to say that that's not the way the world really works anymore. "We're an empire now," he said, "and when we act, we create our own reality."

Terrorism has been around since long before 9/11 and countries around the world have been dealing with it with varying success for a lot longer than we have. Terrorism has been used here on our soil, in Oklahoma City and in the first WTC bombing. It is merely George W. Bush's fantasy that makes him believe that 9/11 somehow changed things and that we are the only nation in the world capable of dealing with terrorism.

The boogyman that Bush uses to frighten people is a false image and it really pisses me off that our representatives in Congress and the media have allowed him to use it that way. FDR said, "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." George Bush says, "Be afraid, be very afraid."

I say, "Fuck you, George."

2. I'm sick of it too

But that doesn't mean I will ignore the great weight it bears on the physce of America.

It's here and it will destroy us. Just as you said, 9/11 has been USED by * in ways only a few ever imagined. Those few, however, are now the ones in charge. They are the PNAC supporters and they are about to bring down the house around us using the weight of 9/11.

Kerry simply has to break out the elephant gun.

3. 9/11 didn't change SHIT

Bush is still as stupid and incompetent as he was 9/10, maybe even MORE so.

The only thing it changed was it allowed the dumber and more racist elements of our society to huddle around Chinese-made flags and rant against things instead of doing legitimate work to make the world a better place.

A pathetic waste of international unity and good will.

4. Refusal to acknowledge the change is absurd

Half of the country thinks it did change everything. Refusing to acknowledge that is insane and only allows the deceit to grow stronger.

Unfortunately, Kerry seems to be hiding his head in the sand too, by not realizing the enormous implications of the fear instituted by 9/11.

Hell, I know old marines that shake in their boots when confronted with 9/11. Even here, on DU, real discussions about 9/11 are shoved off the the dungeon.

5. I'm not refusing to acknowledge its impact (npi)

I'm refusing to let them coopt the dynamic. There is a difference.

When I "agree" that 9/11 changed everything, there is an implied alliance with the RW that I refuse. Same thing with the flag: I wear hats with the flag, and t-shirts, and then when somebody realizes that I am a DEMOCRAT and question the dichotomy, I unload both barrels (figuratively :) ).

So I protest the "9/11 changed everything" meme but embrace the fact that they are using it as a political wedge.

The impact of the way 9/11 was used is a better description, indeed.

Thank you... the next time we shall use that terminology to better communicate the ultimate reality of the event.

Clinton is being blamed for 9/11. Clinton!

B*sh made the mistake. How much of the mistake he is actually responsible for, is the only question.

Somebody needs to point out, with clarity, who the responsible party is. Our failure to do so could cost us our democracy.
