If Rush came out of the closet, would his supporters still love him?
hypotheticals:

if matt drudge came out, would his supporters still love him?

if lindsey graham, or asa hutchison came out, would their supporters still love them?

if george dubya came out, would his supporters still love him?

if robert taylor the actor had come out, would his fans still have loved him? or joan crawford? or hattie mc daniel, or president abe lincoln?

if michaelangelo had come out, would his admirers still have admired him?

if j. edgar hoover had come out, would the nation still have respected him? or his fellow bureaucrats?

if gary bauer had come out, would the family research council still respect him?

if a gay or lesbian g.i. were killed in action in iraq or afghanistan, would his or her sacrifice be honored as heavily as a hetero war hero?

is a republican parent of a gay son or daughter supposed to automatically be ashamed of them, like alan keyes?

would a republican parent be supportive of their gay son or lesbian daughter if he or she were being discriminated against or otherwise harassed or attacked?

are the cheney's proud of their lesbian daughter or not?

if jesus christ had come out, or been revealed as a homosexual, would his devotees still worship him?

if a comet the size of mt. everest hit the earth at the speed of a bullet would it matter one fucking bit who was gay or straight?

but back to rush limbaugh, that nasty rumor has been floating around for years on the internetS, but i didn't start it. you now how rumors work, you just put them out there, true or false, and see how they play with the rubes. his supporters would say, 'what'a'ya mean rush is gay?', 'he's been married for corn's sake'. yeah well liberace got married too, as did rock hudson. it's called a lavender marriage, ask gary bauer.

i'll bet you if it were revealed that rush were gay, and i ain't sayin' he is, his supporters would turn on him 180% and he'd be ruined as the king of the right wing blowhards. (pun intended)

1. His minions would drop him like a hot potato
In no time at all. They just see the label.

2. They didn't seem to mind that he is a drug fiend
It takes a special kind of person to be a ditto-head. Prime prerequesites are the lack of any kind of critical judgement and the ability to absorb prejudice, hatred and lies as quickly as the rotund chickenhawk can spew them out.

4. Only if he "got help" for his "problem"
Nothing they love more than "recovery"...

As far as gay GI's go... With over 1000 killed you can bet a few of the KIA have been gay. Even if gays occur in the military at 10% the rate in the general population, that still means 10 gay KIA.

Bonnie Piestewa, the American Indian woman killed in Jessica Lynch's convoy, had a female "friend" interviewed after her death. The degree to which this woman was upset indicated more than friendship to me. I don't think the military will ever acknowledge gay partners even with a tragedy like this.

7. I think it's right.
Supposedly about 10% of people are gay. If a soldier is ten times LESS likely to be gay than the average person (which I don't think is true, but serves as a minimum) that makes about 10 gay KIA. 100 if soldiers are just as likely to be gay.

The definition of "gay" is tough to establish in this situation. Is Federico Merida gay? What about Sgt. Graner or any other prison rapist?

5. It's in the genes - some have a homophobio gene, . When it is
combined with a faith that accepts customized and limited science and a lack of desire to explore or study history - you get fear. Then comes the hate, intolerance, hiding, hypocrisy. Hypocrisy brings pontificating and obfuscation and abuse. But their greatest fear is either of being seduced or of not living according to a mortal's interpretation of the bible. So it seems.

8. If Rush admitted he is gay
and went on prime-time TV to do it, while sodomizing a randomly selected little white boy and then beheading and eating him . . .

his followers would not make up their minds how they feel about it until his radio show the next day. Then, they'd rationalize it with some sort of spin.

This is a cult, not a fan club.

10. They'd figure out some rationalization for why it was okay for Rush
but not for anyone else.

Just as they did with his drug habit.

14. What happened to Rush's wife?
I remember hearing on the news that he was getting a divorce almost as soon as he left rehab. I thought when I heard it that maybe this will take some of the luster off his halo but it has been quite every since.. Maybe we could get the media to look into her disappearance?
