Well, just another reason I'll keep on loving Macs!
Apparently Bill Gates, he of that horrbile OS, Microsucks Windoze, supports Bush for President. Steve Jobs, being the intelligent man that he is(as reflected in his intelligent and elegant computer and OS) supports Kerry. <http://www.npr.org/rundowns/rundown.php?prgId=3&prgDate=current> (link is about 2/3 down the page, entitled "Presidential Endorsements Tricky for CEOs")

Just another reason to keep on loving Macs!

1. Maybe if we all switch
we can get the costs down--only reason I own a PC is it's cheaper

18. Cheap in the short run, sure
Though Mac prices are coming down all the time

But when you start factoring in all of the costs, downtime due to crashes, viri, security holes, etc, Mac comes out to be much cheaper in the long run.

Republicans : Windows :: Democrats : Macs

Macs...
- are more efficient
- cost more, but are worth it
- are used by people that are more intelligent
- look better

PC's...
- have large amounts of time when they don't work
- tell you there is something wrong when you see a lot of blue

I could think of more, but homework calls

10. The difference between PC owners and Mac owners is this...
...PC owners are like hot rodders back in the Sixties. They work on their own piece of junk until they get it running like a stripped-assed ape that'll blow anything off the road.

Mac owners are like Fifties European sportscar enthusiasts. The little car looks good, runs great but when it needs repair it's off to the import auto mechanic and mega-bucks.

21. I supported an entire floor of Macs at Tandy
Back when Tandy had the Incredible Universe stores, an entire floor at the Tandy Towers in Fort Worth was filled with graphic artists, Photoshop gurus and Quark experts. Everyone used Macs and 99% of the time, the artists could keep their machines running without any problems. I did software upgrades and backed up all of the computers to a Mac server running AUX.

The IT department had no use for us; they made their living supporting the PCs which needed constant attention.

PC owners are like hot rodders back in the Sixties

I loved the 60s, but, hey, it's the 21st century. I don't know anybody who does anything to their cars now except for chip-modding.

To each their own!

24. A bit off on both points there friend
First off, of the many many Macs that I've had, all are still running(and this is from an Apple II on up), and I've never had to do repair work on any of them. Rock solid stable machines.

And as far as running like a fifties European sports car goes, well, that's a good thing. Most fifties European sports cars ran, and run, faster than any sixties muscle cars. See, I collect old cars also, and I'll match up an Allard J series from the fifties against any muscle car from the sixties. Not exactly a little car either, not with a twelve cylinder under the hood.

32. I've never taken a Mac in for service in over 16 years
I've been using Macs since 1988. The only problem I've had was once when a hard drive crashed. But that was IBM's fault. I am pretty religious about preventive maintenance though.

22. Have you tried OS X?
If you like Linux, you might love OS X.

It's based on FreeBSD Unix, so all the stuff you want is there: GCC, emacs, pico, Apache, MySQL, PHP, ad infinitum.

A lot of Linux guys have gotten Powerbooks when they saw OS X running on it. Plus, with OS X you can run all of your "regular" programs like Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Microsoft Office, etc.

Try it. You might like it.

:)

29. I'm sure OSX is fantastic
but I'm not leaving Linux. All the lovely free software that you rightly mentioned is already there, and the system can be assembled from cheap commodity PC parts. Much less expensive than an Apple and for a similarly lovely user experience. The commercial software isn't all there, but hey you can't have everything.

If your choice is determined by technical considerations (is this OS any good?) then Mac OSX has got to be up there at the head of the list. Many of us evil open-source hacker fiends care about freedom though, and for us it can't be ignored that OSX is still a proprietary OS. You can't do what you like with it. Linux OTOH is distributed under the Gnu General Public Licence which grants unrestricted licence to use the software, and also licence to redistribute it with only one condition.

It's all about hacker politics. :)

23. For me, I'm neutral....
My alternate OS is PhOS, which is a derivative of the BeOS. I love them, the easiest OS in the world to install, yet has a good set of developmental tools and media kits, right out of the box, so to speak. From CD/DVD burning, media editing, etc. it is the fastest OS for the PC. Even then, it is also powerful and stable for productivity, the problem is lack of software support or hardware support, but, checking out www.bebits.com rectifies that problem real quick. And of course the best part is that it is FREE!!!

27. I never really liked macs.
I always had that stupid screen with the bomb come up saying the computer has to reset...it would happen every day. Windows has actually given me fewer headaches, it just takes more time to learn I suppose. And windows XP is actually much much much better than previous version. With win98 I usually had to restart every couple of days just to get things cleaned up a little. XP seems to stay up pretty much indefinitely.

The only major issue I have is my video card drivers seem to have some kind of problem with XP. I occasionally get a "device failure" problem (its a kryo-II chipset, so its kind of an off brand). But XP actually stays up even through the device failure...its a little messed up, but it doesn't die like win98 would. The only other problems I've had were some bad hard drives. Other than that, I've been running XP just fine for about a year.

I like having lots of games available, and I like being able to open the thing up and add or upgrade parts at will. I'm definitely sticking with PCs and Windows for the foreseeable future. Though I would like to see Microsoft brought under control a little more at the very least...its quite clear they have a monopoly, and they exploit it.

28. What works for you, though I think that your experience is an exception
I've never had the bomb appear for me, nor have I had one of my Macs go down. I still break out my old Apple II on occasion, just for nostolgia's sake.

And quite frankly, with either an Orange PC card, or Virtual PC, I can run any program that is available on Windows. Sad to say, there are programs and games for Macs only that you can't run on a PC. <http://www.ambrosiasw.com/news/> The Escape Velocity games saga is great, an epic Star Wars type game. Sad to say, you can't run it on a PC.
