MSNBC: Clinton for Secretary General of the UN.
Edited on Thu Oct-21-04 07:12 PM by Soup Bean
That's the first time I've heard it mentioned outside the "internets".

The young lady hosting Countdown said Clinton would have overwhelming support from member states, and would restore the credibility of the UN. She also said that he "definitely wants to do it".

She said that there would be intense resistance to his ascension if Bush were re-elected.

2. I caught the tail end of it...they suggested that Kofi Annan is in favor
but that the US would have to go along, and that would not be likely if Bush* is reelected.

Yet another reason to kick the chimp out.

Though isn't there some rule barring that from happening? Then again, MSNBC would've researched that, wouldn't they? (snicker)

7. Carter's good, but not strong enough. Clinton could re-shape the UN.
At least, he could re-shape it as much as it could be re-shaped.

8. Time to have some fun with this thread.....:)
Ok...say instead of DU, this is Rense.com. How is the New World Order (NWO) agenda affected by Bill Clinton becoming SG?

15. Starting generically - the UN becomes a rallying point
Alot more folks - around the world - start feeling like it might actually accomplish something.

Everywhere he travels, people love Clinton. They name their children after him. That feeling accrues to the UN.

Suddenly, negotiations seem possible. Clinton deputizes Carter, negotiations break-out world-wide. Freaking world-wide. Everyone wants these guys to come help them figure out problems.

For BFEE-BushCo-NWO enterprises, mid-level whistle-blowers come forward - again, it's freaking world-wide. Mid-level managers begin to sabotage BushCo enterprises. BushCo enterprises are flooded with popular demonstrations, some henchmen are publically tarred-and-feathered.

Will Clinton keep BushCo out of the ICC? I think there would have to be a number of significant patsies to offer up.

17. NWO
New World Order.

That phrase came to being during President Clinton terms.

Conservatives would go ape-shit over it.
Most Liberals would love it.

Here's a thought that would make Freepers Flip:

Hilary Clinton For UN Secretary General.

While this would mute the Freepers complaints about her in the Senate, the howls about her in the UN would make things so much more, well, It would really make the Freepers mess their underwear.
Freepers do wear underwear, don't they?

18. Incorrect - it was coined by Bush I

Out of these troubled times, our-objective-a new world order-can emerge-Today, that new world is struggling to be born, a world quite different from the one we have known-
-Former President George Bush
September 11, 1990

<snip>
Historical analysis will be the primary methodology used to reveal the meaning of George Bush's specific terminology describing his concept of "new world order." In a January 16, 1991 speech, he identified the opportunity to build a new world order "where the rule of law-governs the conduct of nations," and "in which a credible United Nations can use its peacekeeping role to fulfill the promise and vision of the UN's founders."

I could live with either Carter or Clinton, but would love to see Clinton get it, after what those pricks did to him.

9. Is this true about Clinton?
I hadn't heard. This is great though---can't think of a better choice. I am a real admirer of the brilliant Clinton. Damn Monica.

10. Awww...let's lay off Monica.
She was just a kid...so I put more blame on Clinton for that than her. I'd still rather have a President lying about a BJ than about why we had to send people into harm's way in Iraq.

I'm not sure one of the Security Council member nations can have one of their citizens as Secretary General. I think more than the Bush administration (like maybe China, Russia, blah, blah) would oppose his candidacy.

as long as the U.S is a permanent member of the Security Counsel. I'm not opposed to the idea in any way, it would drive the freepers nuts!

20. No rule, but it's reckoned unlikely
Past secretaries general have come from various regions of the world, but it is an unwritten rule that they never should come from one of the most powerful countries. This tradition is a response to concerns that a secretary general selected from such a country would not be perceived by other nations as objective or neutral. There is also a fear that such a selection would give the world’s most influential nations that much more power. Past secretaries general include Trygve Lie of Norway, who served from 1946 to 1953; Dag Hammarskjöld of Sweden, 1953 to 1961; U Thant of Burma, 1961 through 1971; Kurt Waldheim of Austria, 1972 to 1982; and Javier Pérez de Cuéllar of Peru, 1982 through 1991. No woman has yet served in this position.

The permanent members of the Security Council have a veto over the appointment. I don't think any of them would really want an ex US president.
