I'm so happy...(guy at my door) |

Wow. Just a cool thing I want to share. A family who won the immigration lottery from Togo, Africa moved to my neighborhood this past summer. They felt very grateful to Bush for their new life and were looking forward to voting for him in the upcoming election. I took the 18 year old son on a neighborhood field trip to see F911 and we had a group discussion afterwards. Apparently, he followed up on the news/info sources! He just came to my door. He is canvassing the neighborhood passing out Kerry literature and checking to see who is voting for which candidate. He is keeping score on a little notebook he is carrying and giving out a handdrawn map to our polling place. This kid is wonderful! I'm so excited-- he had all sorts of relevant information memorized in his faltering English about jobs, health care, "war illegal, undeclared get oil illegal" etc. He often visits our computer lab and translates websites online into French, so he can follow all the American news.
Now, this is the America I believe in-- where new immigrants in faltering memorized English are campaigning for the common folk in an impoverished neighborhood! More power to us!

Lots of good news coming out about the U.S. I remember.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. And to that kid, just, wow, I'm speechless. Thank heavens he isn't.

He probably knows more about this election than someone who was born and raised here.
THAT is what our country is about and gives me hope for our future.
Thanks for the post! :hi:
