Song: "Takin' my Country Back" Aw, this is nice.
Not a country western fan as a rule, but this is a nice song with real sincerity.

http://www.takinmycountryback.com/main.htm

SNIP..Music City is full of singers, songwriters, players, engineers, publishers
and producers who support our troops overseas, believe in family,
faith and freedom, and who deeply love this country.

HOWEVER.....they can see that the plans and policies of the
current president are not working. They want to make sure that all
the mistakes don’t continue for another four years.More
importantly, there are millions of Country music lovers who
feel the same way. Any common sense working man or woman
can tell you..."when the boss hasn't been doing his job,
he needs to be fired and replaced."
It’s as simple as that.

So far, there has been nothing on Country radio to reflect this sentiment. THERE IS NOW. Listen to Takin’ My Country Back...send it out to all your friends...and tell all your local radio stations to play it... a lot !"END SNIP

About The Honky Tonkers for Truth...

This project came about because we in Nashville- and there are many- who hate the way the current administration has conducted it's affairs, were sick and tired of seeing country music portrayed nationally as 100% pro status quo.

My name is Paul Scholten, my friend David Kent wrote "Takin My Country Back" at my request. Some other friends, Dave Pomeroy, Bruce Bouton, Steve Sheehan, Spady Brannon, Barry Walsh, George Marinelli, and Jon Yudkin (all A team studio musicians) played on the record for free.

The studio time was donated. The singer you hear is Tony Stamply, who is not a label artist, but a great singer, and hit songwriter. Look him up.

Members of the Music Row Democrats including but not limited to Bob Titley, Tim Dubois, Don Cook, Garth Fundis, and Bobby Braddock all heard this song early and convinced us we had a hit on our hands.

Kacey Jones, Jamie Watson, Kent Agee, Steve Bloch, Bill LLoyd, Sandra Shulman, and several others have assembled many times, donating countless hours in publicizing, promoting, and generally brainstorming the marketing of this single.

We also enlisted the support of several dozen friends and supporters for the massive sing along audible at the end of "Takin' My Country Back ". Taken Together, this entire group comprises Honky Tonkers for Truth .

The reviews and emails we've been receiving are overwhelmingly supportive. We know we've got a song that needs to be heard. We are aware of course that some won't agree with sentiment expressed. That's OK. Free speech and diversity of opinions are among the things that make America truly great. We welcome any awareness / support / controversy anyone wishes to promote.
thanks !

1. There was a Buzzflash alert on this, I hear.
Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 12:28 PM by madfloridian
I can't seem to find it at Buzzflash.

They had trouble finding someone to sing the song. Wonder why....isn't that sad?

Here is quote I found from the Buzzflash alert:

"What they didn't have was a "brand name" singer willing to put his/her career on the line by singing a song with a critical message. The Honky Tonkers for Truth are comprised of successful songwriters, publishers, producers, musicians, and attorneys. Even with their combined contacts, the best they could get from the "star" country artists they queried (all self-proclaimed Democrats) was a "maybe" and then, when their managers caught wind of it, "Sorry...and good luck."

Enter, Tony Stampley, one of Nashville's most respected session singers and son of country legend, Joe Stampley. Tony's stellar performance of Takin My Country Back and his willingness, rather, his passion and enthusiasm, to be a part of country music's "other voice" inspired the Honky Tonkers for Truth to take the song directly to the world via radio, the internet, and any other means possible. Examples:

1) The lyrics of Takin' My Country Back were broadcast on the JumboTron at the Gaylord Entertainment Center as the song played to 8,000 concerned Nashville citizens who came to hear speaker/activist/filmmaker, Michael Moore, the night of October 9, 2004.

4. That is a great site, and gives me hope.
I heard the Dixie Chicks on Bill Maher one night, and I heard them at the Vote for Change concert on Sundance.

I never realized just how damning it would be to take a stand in the country music field for the Democratic side.

I just looked at some of the comments at the site you listed, and that is what they are all about, adding the Democratic voice to the industry.

6. Found the article at Buzzflash.....
and I keep humming the song..so it must be pretty good.

http://www.buzzflash.com/alerts/04/10/ale04066.html

SNIP..."4) At this writing, the website: www.TakinMyCountryBack.com has been up for ten days. It's had 90,000 hits to date.

5) 30 and 60 second radio spots featuring the song Takin' My Country Back are playing now on selected country radio stations and can be downloaded for free at our website.

6) The ASSOCIATED PRESS featured Takin' My Country Back in the 10/13/04 edition of The AP Morning Prep. They service SIX THOUSAND radio stations.

The Honky Tonkers for Truth support our troops overseas, believe in family, faith and freedom, and deeply love this country. What we disagree with is, the image and the misconception that all people in the country music industry support the current administration. For those who differ with our opinion, we respect your right to speak freely, defend your position, and express yourself because, we believe in the rights provided to ALL of us by The First Amendment. So far, there has been nothing on country radio to reflect our sentiment and, there are millions of country music lovers who feel the same way we do. All we're asking for is EQUAL TIME on the airwaves. To hear this brave song free of charge, go to: www.TakinMyCountryBack.com ....."

7. I love it! Got the news out to my local democratic organization ...
As I understand it, we can use this excellent song through the election. Understandably after Nov 2, these good folks want to make a profit. But heck, if/when Kerry wins, this song will be blaring from the rooftops. Thanks-you for such a sweet song!

8. I burned 3 copies of this last week
and have been playing it over and over and over!

What do I have to do to get a radio station to play it? Should I try dropping off a copy? We have a country station right here in my town. I have been hesitant to drop it off because I'm SURE they're chimp supporters. :( Should I try anyway?

13. There is a way at the site to contact, I think.
You put in your zip code and search. I believe I saw where you can find the phone numbers....not that they do much good. Most of our stations here are not locally owned anymore...all canned stuff.

10. I am with you on that! Take them both back.
I was called unpatriotic by my former Southern Baptist Church when I questioned their drum beating for the war. I have not forgotten.

I don't care for country music either (I'm a jazz person), but this is going to be my "theme" song! I've sent the link to the re-puke women's sites to try and sway them. Thanks!

23. Way too early for me.
Since we retired, that is just plain too early. Not even Dean could get us to watch that early in the morning.

I like this song, it has a memorable tune to go with the great words.
