1. I think it would fair to say
"Know your Enemies."
These groups are enemies of democracy, of liberalism and all progressive values.

3. Thanks for the list.
Some of the names as expected, are deceptive and misleading.

4. And great sources for us t o mine for information!
Lots of them are really angry about certain Bush policies, so you can pull conservative sources to back up arguments that are pro-Kerry, when dealing with Repubs or conservative undecideds.

5. I've started keeping a database on groups like these
Names along don't tell much, so I've started making annotations. Here's what I've got so far on the groups you name:

Accuracy in Media - Headed by Reed Irvine. Puts pressure on the media. Anti-environmental.

American Center for Law and Justice - Founded by Pat Robertson. Opposes gay marriage. Supports school vouchers. Supports faith-based initiative. Opposes abortion.

American Conservative Union - Founded by William Buckley in 1964. Board members include Senator Jesse Helms, Grover Norquist, Morton Blackwell, and L. Brent Bozell III.

American Enterprise Institute - Conservative think-tank. Board heavy on CEO's of major companies. Trustees have included Dick Cheney and Ken Lay.

Americans for Tax Reform - Grover Norquist. Anti-tax.

Center for the Study of Popular Culture - David Horowitz.

Christian Coalition of America - Founded by Pat Robertson. Intended to take over the Republican Party. Recent lost non-profit status.

Club for Growth - Anti-government, anti-tax.

Eagle Forum - Phyllis Schafly. Anti-sex.

Family Research Council - For school prayer, vouchers, computer filtering software. Against sex education, gay rights.

Free Congress Research and Education Foundation (Or just the Free Congress Foundation) - Paul Weyrich.

Heritage Foundation - Paul Weyrich. Supports faith-based initiatives, school vouchers, ban on abortion, overturning affirmative action.

Institute for Justice - Libertarian law firm. Supports vouchers, faith-based initiative. Opposes affirmative action.

Leadership Institute - Morton Blackwell. Trains up-and-coming Republican activists (like Karl Rove.)

National Taxpayers Union - Founded by Grover Norquist. Anti-tax.

Students for Academic Freedom - David Horowitz. Combats liberalism on campus.

Traditional Values Coalition - Church-based. Opposes gay rights, abortion, sex education, evolution. Supports school prayer.

Young America's Foundation - Supports free enterprise, national defense, and traditional values.

8. starroute, I've just caught up on reading some of your
earlier posts from a few days ago, you have been busy, thanks for all the research and time you've invested in these groups/connections. Are any of these Moon funded or related? I'm trying to start a database myself with the think-tanks, names and connections to the Rev. Moon.

9. Thanks for the compliment
I've just started a thread with a huge chart of all the major connections, plus narrative descriptions of the major players and events. Please come have a look.

As far as Moon goes, I honestly don't know the answer. Back in the 80's, he seemed to be trying to take over the entire right -- funding all the major groups, bailing their leaders out of trouble, etc.

But starting about 1990, Moon began trying to upgrade his image. These days, he sponsors conferences on world peace and protecting the environment and seems to want to hobnob with world leaders rather than with the rabble. In addition, the most active right-wing groups these days are very aligned with the Bush agenda and are vehemently against multilateralism and environmental regulation. So I don't know if they and Moon have anything in common at all any more.

Students for Academic Freedom - David Horowitz. Combats liberalism on campus

This is one scary man - he spews more hatred and lies against liberals than even Savage or Limbaugh. Can you imagine having him for a professor? This man scares me more than most of these fanatics with the anger, venom and hatred targeted towards anybody who doesn't agree with RW NeoCon idealogy. I think he must be a product, bought and paid for, of Richard Mellon Scaife.
