Just saw Team America funny and sucky all at once |
|
Now my mind is in the gutter 24/7 the puppet sex was hilarious the songs were funny as hell "freedom cost a buck o Five" but the bullshit about the celebritys being traitors pissed me off. I think alienating your audience with right wing bullshit is just ignorant. Now i know it was a spoof and i have a sense of humor But i felt hollow leaving the theatre. The south park guys whom i usually just love thier work have just put a rock in my gut that will allways be there when i see Southpark or anything they do. They had an oportunity with this movie they blew it in my eyes. They basically told hollywood to shut up.Yet they said or did nothing about the right wing hollywooders or the rightwing assholes on the other side. I will never pay to see another matt and trey movie again. if ignorance is bliss they must be euphoric

1. Parker and Stone are Bush ass kissers who pretend not to be |
|
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 06:16 PM by Democat
Fox claims to be fair and balanced, Parker and Stone claim to attack both sides equally.
Neither is true. Parker and Stone, like Fox, are right wing ass kissers.

3. It was 30 minutes of comedy stretched to an hour and a half. |

You know they're low on material when they start repeating the same gags. They referenced the Matrix slow-mo karate scene TWICE.
The movie has some really funny moments, like the "America... fuck, yeah!" song. For awhile I thought they might continue to parody the whole "uberpatriotism" thing, but they didn't. They just kind of wandered off into multiple directions.
It was like they didn't know anything about the subjects they were trying to poke fun at. It felt like a junior high schooler's shot at parody. To really mock something you've got to understand it.
It was a very weak flick, IMHO. It wasn't their politics that ruined it for me though- it was the unfocussed, lack of material.

was that they made a big deal out of calling hollywood lefites "pussies", but in the whole 2 hours they never made fun of anyone with any REAL power, ie Bush/Cheney/Ashcroft etc
so who's the pussy?

5. their message is that .. |

celibrities should shut up about politics. They seem to be saying that the mere fact of a liberal's celebrity disqualifies any of his/her political opinions.
Their work is very political, so this is the ultimate hypocrisy coming from "opinionated celebrities" like Parker and Stone.

just because someone is a celebrity doesn't mean their opinion has more resonance. But, then again, it doesn't mean it doesn't, either. And I saw Real Time Friday night and had the same thought. Bradford is a citizen. He's obviously interested and informed. More so than many of the consultants on news channels. So, why not listen to him? He brought up pertinent points and specifics while Woolsley spoke politic-ese, saying nothing germaine or insightful.

6. I thought it was funny. |
|
Sorry but I did. And I thought they made fun of the right. The heros fucked up everything they tried to help. Like America has.
I saw a Southpark where they made fun of Mel Gibson. I mean they reamed him. Made him look like a fucking nut.
I have also seen one where they make light of stemcells. Something rightwingers are serious about.
I can laugh at myself. The movie was funny.
Lighten up.

I guess you have to make it public that you are intentionally not seeing the movie in order to boycott it.

15. It's a movie with Puppets - who gives a flying F*ck?!? |
|
Work to win the election people, don't waste time on distractions like a puppet movie, two years from now - almost all of it commentary will be so dated even those who find it funny today, won't then.
Don't believe me? - How funny are Al Gore comedy sketches today?

I am not a big fan of South Park but I thought this movie was great.
They picked on our ham-handed military.
They picked on pompous celebrities.
But mostly they picked on bad Jerry Bruckheimer movies!
Verry funny, and I need to see it again because I was laughing so hard I missed jokes.
In the theatre I saw it, people were walking out and security wasn't allowing kids & their parents to watch the movie.
