Hello DU
Justed wanted to say hello. I have been a DU junkie for a while now, but have not taken the time to donate or participate in the forum, both of which I have corrected. The cancer of the current administration has sparked a fire in me to get involved. I am ashamed to say that this is the first time I have registered to vote and did so to get the chimp in chief out of office. I only hope that there are millions like me, unanticipated voters, who will send the Dumbya back to Teexass.

I am curious how others sit in the political spectrum. I ran across an interesting web site http://www.politicalcompass.org/

I have taken the test a few times, I keep coming up down by Gandhi.

Economic Left/Right: -5.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.90

Funny, I don't feel like a martyr, but I do like Indian food. ;)

3. Hi FM Arouet666!
:hi: :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi:

Welcome to DU!

:toast:

I guess that's one good thing * did....... brought some people out of the woodwork. It's sad that's about his only accomplishment, eh?

Great to see you here, and hope to hear more from you.

The bad news is....... we're going to need you from now on..... this isn't a one-time deal. :)

There is much to be done, starting on Nov 3, to regain our country. Given your scores on the political test, you can do much to help us educate people about working and voting in their best interest.

Kanary

I'm glad to hear that you're getting involved and plan on voting for the first time. There's no shame in that. We need every vote we can get and at least you're being proactive.

I've taken that test before, and I'm in the lower left hand quadrant as well.

I am a newbie to the DU also. My son said I should register and start to engage in conversation to get Kerry elected. So here I am.

I am a WW2 Vet who is against the bush war.

7. I salute you Sir
While not a veteran of a war, I am ex-military.

I was a bit lost in high school, too much rebellion, and joined the Marine Corps at age 17 and entered boot camp after graduation. After my honorable discharge I was, and again I apologize for past mistakes, a staunch republican. Though I never voted for the rats.

The experience was both good and bad. I felt like I had lost my individuality in the camouflage green skin. But I did gain the discipline to work hard and finish college and become a physician, a task I could not have attained when I was 17.

Things changed as I became more educated, I became more democratic after college, UC Berkeley, and was anti-republican by the time I graduated from Med school.

Being a democrat is not being anti-military. As you know, more than any, we must be prepared to fight to preserve our way of life and advance humankind into a better future. WWII was a noble cause. But, you have realized, as have I, that this Iraq exploit is anything but noble. Kerry is pro-military in that he would never have unilaterally attacked a sovereign nation which did not attack us based on non-existent WMDs or non-existent ties to terror groups. With a democrat at the helm 1000+ kids would still be alive.

My life has followed you somewhat. You know rebel in my youth and college later. Thank god for the GI Bill, and a great wife.

I don't know about you, but many ex-military tend to be more conservative. I know I was after I got out. The road to become a democrat was paved with education and understanding. Again I Salute you for your service and hope you will continue with DU.

35. I wish i had said that
"The road to become a democrat was paved with education and understanding."

So true. I too started out as a right leaning voter. Then during the Vietnam War i was working as an Engineer in So Cal.
It didn't take too long, working around younger people for me to examine what the hell are we doing there. Then came marching against the war, and a fundamental belief that its time for a change in my political ideals and standards.

Life has been so good to me.

ciao

11. Damn I'm Hungry
Now that I am thinking about it I could use some Keema Nan and Lamb. Going to NYC next week by way of Cincinnati, to fail my general surgery boards, and I will pick up some fine Indian food at this little place I used to frequent on the upper west side. Yummy :toast:

15. The Name
I must admit that I was sitting here trying to think of a name and thought back to Voltaire, a French philosopher whom I have always admired. Must have been the red wine, I get silly and French when I drink. ;)

Anyway, my name is FM Arouet or Francois Marie Arouet better known as Voltaire. The 666 is added out of my lack of religious persecution or is that persuasion, again the wine.

Another Quote

It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.
Voltaire

17. Wenatchee!
You must be starved my dear friend. I went to Wenatchee to interview for a job at the Wenatchee Clinic. I liked it allot, as did my wife, but the head of the surgery group was a closed minded Mormon asshole who ridiculed me for not attending a large university based residency. Probably too much info, but Wenatchee was a nice community. My wife is from Seattle and very much wanted to be in Washington State, we ended up in Arizona, better practice opportunities. Anyway, if not Indian food, Sushi is close at hand in Seattle.
Still hungry.........

Out there with Gandhi, Mandela and the Dalai Lama - just yer basic god-damn hippie I suppose...

I liked the question "Astrology accurately explains many things" (translation: "Do you believe in stupid crap with no basis in fact"). I wonder if a "strongly agree" on that one makes you more left- or right-wing? Hmmm....:eyes:
