If we had had DU or another similar group in 1988 |
|
Where do you think we would be today?
I know that the internet and PCs and all that have only largely hit the masses in the 90s, but just supposing all of that were moved back ten years, and we saw GB I elected in 1988, despite the fact that he is/was as crooked as his son? Do you think we would have been able to have the momentum we have now as a voting population?
I remember all the shit that Poppy pulled against Mike Dukakis. I liked Dukakis a lot, and even met him when he was governor of Mass. He had spunk, he had a lot of good ideas, a strong feeling of empathy for people and was not only intelligent but very, very wise. If I had had a group like DU then, my foray into politics would have come a lot sooner, because I would have been able to feel more in control about the things that would have come out, joined in a lot more conversations, and learned a lot more at an earlier time. Since 1988 I have felt so mad, so angry at the conservative leaders, but felt gratified when Clinton came onto the scene and proceeded to win. I would certainly have found myself working more steadfastly to support Clinton, because more avenues of information and advocacy might have been available. In some ways, I feel somewhat cheated because we didn't have this kind of coalition until more recently.

1. I agree - the Duke was great - the media tore him apart. |

The media payback to the GOP for the Reagan/GOP ending the Fairness Doctrine Regulation in 1987 has been at Max ever since 1987.

I always thought it was strange that Neil Bush never went to jail for all the collusion he had in the penny stock scandals. I kept waiting for charges to materialize, and they never did.

Democrats were too easy on ronnie. They should have called him a traitor for selling weapons to our enemy iran but they wouldn't say it. But people on the net would have said it. And the first gulf war would have gotten a lot of criticism too if the net had existed.
Makes you wonder how many terrible things our leaders have gotten away with in the past when all criticism had to first go thru the media filter.
