We need to tackle one single issue....how about BBV. |
|
Do we need to take BBV and make it our total activist focus for the next four years?
Media BLAST, Congress BLAST, LOCAL political & media blast this issue to get it on ballots in our states?

Would the MoveOn people join in an attempt to verify and expose any problems? We will NOT ACCEPT the same voter verification system ever again. We need to raise the roof on this issue and make it a priority.

4. What we need is a HACKER. |
|
Plain and simple...
We need to make people see how vulnerable BBV is....and we need to make it a big event.
Either that or we need to get to a Deibold worker...

5. Yes! I've been thinking along the same lines. |
|
It seems to me that there is a set of 3 related issues we need to focus on.
1. BBV - there *must* be an auditable paper trail. EVERYWHERE. 2. Secretaries of State. This will help us with 1, and is important for all the obvious reasons. 3. Also, I think we should work on having election day be a national holiday. So many people had to leave lines to work. Shouldn't happen.

6. Election reform is the first issue democrats should focus on. |
|
This is fresh in everyones' minds and the GOP is vulnerable on this issue since there are so many stories of long lines, unreliable machines, inconsistent rules, and republicans attempting to suppress minority voters. Republicans hate having the truth be told about the rampant bigotry and racism in the GOP and would have a hard time defending trying to continue to disenfranchise minorities. They will look bad if they oppose election reform. There is no reason that an election reform bill can not be the very first thing passed by the next Congress. But the democrats have to make it an important issue.
After that democrats should raise the issue of reforming Congress and the rest of the federal government. They should focus on nepotism and the revolving door of government employees leaving and becoming lobbyists. The democrats should freely admit that this will hurt some democrats as well as republicans, but they should argue that it needs to be done. Put the onus on the GOP to defend nepotism and revolving doors to corrupt wealth.
The democrats need a coordinated and consistent message that the federal government needs to be improved and since republicans control the government any failure to reform government is a willful failure of the republicans to keep the corrupt staus quo.

7. Yes! When I can pick myself up again, this is the issue I want to be |
|
active in. If they succeed in making our votes irrelevant, they truly can do anything they want. A vote is our hammer. If the evildoer politicians never have to face the threat of being thrown out of office, they won't even have to pretend we live in a democracy anymore.

9. First, help Blackboxvoting.org continue their investigative work |
|
Donate.
I urge you to donate to other organizations too. But right now Blackbox is rounding up critical information beyond the tremendous work of poll watchers and others. Records requests don't all come free, either, and Blackbox has to foot that bill.
Join the clean up crew. There are several states in the forums that need to have information on the contacts in each county for elections.
That may take some searching, as in some states it's auditors, some clerks, yeeesh.
Help get the forums populated with this information. Then if a county is being recalcitrant about FOIA requests, note if it's your county or in your state, and help put pressure on to get that information.
For example, at the state level in Minnesota they refused to fulfill any requests for 30 days. Huh? That's unacceptable especially when the information only has to be copied- either from their records or from the voting system.

Has BBV been able to fucking procure a functional BBV machine? Then it's time to kick the tires and see what the fuck shakes out.

10. that is the absolute basic thing we need to do |
|
that must be addressed on a local basis, county by county
if we don't fix that, there will never be another legitimate election in Murka again.

11. Election reform is not just BBV though--we need to also |
|
champion an election holiday for voting, consistent balloting and county regulations, consistent ballot format, to name a few. Why not go for the whole enchilada?

12. YES! This is the issue. |
|
All morning long I've been trying to formulate a post. But you beat me to it.
First of all, I don't know if we lost. Does anyone know? A republican owned Diebold. He even claimed BEFORE the election, that Bush would win Ohio. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?! Does that indicate anything to anyone? Bev Harris tried and tried and tried. So to me the issue is that we have just had an election where the electors are not satisfied. Is that Democracy? NO. Noone listened. We didn't get a paper trail. Had this been the bank, people would have burned the building down. But no, it's more important than the bank. Unless you're republican.
So until this issue is resolved, there will be no elections that can be counted on.
