Mark R. Warner'08 - It is starting already... |
|
Popular red state Democratic governor. Sounds like an interesting choice for 2008 indeed. http://www.draftwarner.com/

i dont know about you but I think we first need to get over our depression over the fact that a criminal, lying, corrupt, and scumbag won the presidency and that 59 million people could be fooled into thinking that he is a good guy before we start thinking about 2008.

4. Better than our last two governors thats for damn sure. |
|
Under Allen (now Senator) the DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality) people couldn't tell whether they were coming or going---feds (under Clinton) threatened to take over enforcement from the state. Warner is very wealthy, moderate, and wouldn't be a bad choice IMHOP.

9. Is Warner good on basic democratic issues? |
|
I know he's good on a woman's right to choose, what about minimum wage, the enviornment, healthcare, etc. I know you guys have a Repuke legislature so it's hard to judge him entirely by what he's done as governor of VA.

15. He got Tax Reform through a puke dominated Legislature. |
|
National pukes were pissed, but he got it through by framing it in a way that appealed to most Virginians. Hell, if he never did anything else, that should be considered a monumental success as far as I'm concerned. I've heard puke politicians here describe our state gov't being run like a business (efficiently) as a though it were a negative connotation. I think he has some skills.

5. When is his term up in Virginia? |
|
Intriguing. I don't know if he's the one but, he's got the profile of the kind of candidate Democrats should consider: A governor from a red state with an apparent ability to generate the vote of rural conservatives.
What were the big issues in his last campaign? I recall something about a tax issue related to Northern Virginia transportation; and then there was something related to guns.
Also, how's his popularity?

22. He walks a fine line here, |
|
but he's pretty popular. He has brought accountability to VDOT, kept our AAA bond rating, funded education, and balanced our state's budget while most other states were still in shock from the Bush tax cuts and recession.
By the way, Va is meeting its SOL requirements under NCLBA.

but i think it's dangerous to get him on a ticket too early. in all honesty, it depends on whomever the republicans throw up counter our nominee. i want a slam dunk for obama, just because he's too important to us. i know, i know, i'm selfish. ;)

|
stupid law, but there it is.
But guess who has to stand for re-election in 2006? Senator George Allen.
Rumor has it that Warner is being lobbied hard by the Dems to take on Allen.

14. One thing you can be sure of... |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 10:30 PM by NewJeffCT
One thing we can be sure of, Republicans are making a list of potential Democratic presidential candidates for 2008 (Warner, Easley, Bayh, Clinton, Obama, Clark, Dean, etc) & writing down or recording every public word they say. That way, when the primaries are over in early 2008, the RW propaganda machine will have a whole arsenal of material to drop on our eventual nominee. If Kerry hadn't won the nomination, it wouldn't have mattered - they'd have unloaded the same crap on Dean, Clark, Edwards or whomever.
So, that said, what are Warner's negatives? He's a moderate, but that only scares the close-minded liberals among us.

19. Absolutely they are already doing their opposition research.. |
|
we should be doing the same thing. By the same token, we should start vetting potential candidates right now. I'm all in favor of vetting Warner, any other possible candidates. So far, I'm only slightly familiar with Warner. But I am impressed by what I've seen. I'm very interested in learning more about him.

I'm realizing more after this election that the country isn't quite ready to accept a liberal. Not that Kerry was a liberal but he was sure as hell portrayed as one. If we put a moderate in, that's fine with me, as long as he's a decent guy with integrity.

Not sure how he'd do going for the White House, but I think he could take on Allen handily. Hope he does. Up close and personal, he has enormous charisma, you just know he is "somebody" when he walks into a room. He ran a damn good campaign for Governor.
And Tim Kaine is going to clean Kilgore's clock next November.
(for you non-virginians, Kaine is LG, and Kilgore is icky AG)
We put alot of fear into the Old Dominion's republican party on Tuesday, no doubt about.
Time to turn Virginia blue.
