Is job descrimination based on political affliation or religion next? |
|
I know my paranoia is running high now, but I already faced repercussions in 2002 at a state government job (in a red state) after being a little too outspoken about my political views--other Dems did as well.
So, now, are there any lawyers on DU who can tell me if current law precludes descrimination based on political affiliation or religion? Please discuss any differences in private sector versus government.
Thanks....Realistically, I want to stay and fight, but these questions may determine if I kill myself working around the clock two jobs just to get enough set aside to move overseas or to Canada... I'm a fighter by nation, folks, but I'm also concerned about stress-related illness and my retirement fund was devastated a long time ago. So, I'm starting over, no matter what...

4. We are the smarter group. |

Need to start watching out for each other, need to get a "blue" network put together consisting of jobs, friendly places to live, vacation, etc. If they can have the "good shepherd" yellow pages, no reason why we cant have the blue ones.
Please be careful speaking of politics in the workplace. I'm doing some research on this now, appears to be different policies state to state, company to company.

6. I've learned my lesson, I can assure you.... |

I will only have a collegial relationship with people from work from now on and only friendly, yet superficial discussions. THe only problem is that that "distance" can be problemmatic as well--especially in jobs with very long term employees entrenched.

It is perfectly legal for certain professions to discriminate based on politics.
The wall street journal editorial page would never hire a socialist, and "the nation" or "mother jones" magazine would never hire a republican.
nothing wrong with that either.
