Christmas presents
I've decided I don't want any more stuff for Christmas. I thought for a minute about telling my family to make a donation to the ACLU for me for christmas, but I wonder if that's just blatant attention-whoring. Maybe I should just graciously accept whatever they give, and then return anything I can and donate the dough.

What do you think?

1. there is a christmas boycott in teh works
If yuo must, biy at local stores, thrift, et al, NOT at major chains

Keep your money local

If you are given things, as you said, return it

The strongest statement we all can make is NOT TO PARTICIPATE as much as we can in this economy

5. I am getting you what I got you last year...
nothing

actually my family will not be exchanging gifts this year. Aside from the little kids (who will get a few things) ...we are just going to rejoice in each other's company...which is the true spirit of the season...

7. I'm from a large family, in the past 10 years ...
... we've made gift exchanges exclusive to the children. The adults still do a big }pot-luck" Christmas dinner with maybe a few drinks around the fireplace on Christmas eve singing carols. Just recently, we started a "gag gift" name exchange for Christmas eve (the kids get to open one gift). Everyone involved comes out ahead!

9. Joining the boycott and helping family at the same time.
No gifts, no theater, no purchase of anything except the bare necessities for a nice family dinner. Each year I spend about $2300 on gifts for family (this includes some cash gifts). This year I am not going buy any gifts. I will explain the motivation and idea behind my boycott of Christmans gifts. I am going to try to get my family to agree to join in. There are 65 (counting children)that I know of. I plan on telling them to make an extra car or mortgage or rent payment with the money they were going to spend on gifts. We will recycle even toys where we can and begin to teach our children the true value of principle, helping others, and the "spirit" of Christmas. There are two young women in our family who are having difficulties making ends meet; one is a single mom. I will pay one car note for each of them and ask other members of the family to either pay a utility bill or some other bill (we always give them plenty of food for Christmas and throughout the year) or to bank some money for them. (I hate that we have to put our money in a bank. Check 21 is just another way to screw the working man. Your check will be processed immediately when deposited but a check TO you may still be held a couple of days before clearance. this is total bull crap! But what can we do. The Republicans in congress with the help of some Dems have gutted the bankruptcy and banking law to favor the money changers).

That said, I hope most, if not all of you, will join in this boycott of the griniche's Christmas. The wealthy are going to buy their "stuff" anyway but they can do it without me.
