I'M TIRED OF THE NORTHEAST BASHING, GODDAMIT!
Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 11:01 PM by ruggerson
I am sick and tired of the rightwingers on television and their constant mantra about the "liberal elite" and the "northeast elite" and the supposed "arrogance" of the "new york elite."

BULLSHIT.

The only arrogance I saw in this campaign came from Bush and his constant demeaning of Massachussetts. Why doesn't the media discuss THAT? Why is it okay for all these rightwing assholes to constantly dump on New England and New York??

I have news for you. THE BLUE STATES PAY MOST OF THE TAXES AND WE SUPPORT THE RED STATES. That's right. The red states suck us dry and then bash us in gratitude.

I'm a fed up New Englander. George Bush, go screw yourself with your "elite" bashing. You can fool all the dimwits in the red states, but you ain't fooling any DAMN YANKEE.

2. This Masshole agrees wholeheartedly
I'm sick of their bullshit.

"It truly is unfair that we have to support the states that elect us a president who doesnt support our values. I'm all for an embargo against Texas beef and other such southern products. Remember the "French embargo" that the GOPers had back in March 2003? Go along with the same thing against GOP states. Hey Illinois has a lot of corn if you need some
Don't travel in heavy Republican states or areas and all the like. They want to assault our way of life? We'll withold the dough."
-----------------------

"Lord, what a freaking good idea. But it deserves a better diary title; a vague one like yours pulls in the like of me but that's not good enough. As the queen of finding better diary titles, I hereby declare that this one should be titled "Blue states should shut down federal govt".

Another idea along the same lines: we can ALL shut down the federal government by simply disallowing the withholding of our federal taxes from our paychecks, and socking that money away in an account to pay your taxes when they're due. It's my understanding that this is perfectly legal, but it would have the effect of CRIPPLING the federal government."
------------------------

"But on Air America today a caller said that he had seen a couple of maps in Newsweek
One showing the read and blue states --
The other showing all the soldiers that have died - what states they came from for the most part -- it was the blue states.
We not only pay for you - we bleed for you - and we die for you."
-------------------

They are laughing.

I moved to a red state a couple years ago, and they think it is a joke. They don't want the money, but they'll take it, with contempt for us in the process.
Let me tell you, they know they don't put in, they won't raise their own state taxes, it just gives them an excuse to do nothing. Like Mexico. When ever there's problems in Mexico, they send their people North. They don't reform, they do not bother to help the economy or the poor. The Blue states need to expand, people need to support their own, and when the recession hits from the skyrocketing deficit hits, at least those states will have the buffer.
I can assure Fed funds are NOT appreciated in MS, unless they go to company, or organization, or a defense contractor (they have dozens here).

7. I agree completely.
I have a lot of family in the south and I never demean them or refer to them as rednecks, etc. They, on the other hand, don't think twice about making cracks about "liberals" and "educated fools". I didn't even get so much as a card from any of them when I got my Masters and they make even snide remarks about it sometimes. It pisses me off. Well, actually, it used to just hurt my feelings but from now on they better keep their fucking mouths shut.

I'm a fed up blue stater, too. It's sad, really, because I was born in the south and there are many things about it that I love. But if they want to demonize and stereotype people based on the region we live in they need to be prepared for the backlash.

11. They make "redneck" seem like a compliment
Like those "You might be a redneck......" comedians that have now amazingly morphed into "Blue Collar" comedians. I don't hear any comedians saying "You might be a northeast liberal if......."

Why is "elite" a compliment in the military but not in political positions. I am proud to be "elite" and not some common, vacuous bumpkin getting my voting orders from a fraud like Falwell or his ilk.

My sister lives in a right-wing section of Florida and shifted to Bush from Gore and took her boyfriend with her. I now call her a brain-dead redneck (lovingly, of course).

What if we just all fight against idiots wherever they live?

9. the electoral college
Part of the problem is the electoral college system. If the votes of Massachusetts Republicans meant anything to Bush, he wouldn't be able to bash the state the way he does. But our system encourages this President of Some Of The States of America.

So yeah, right-wing assholes, stay the hell out of my state. While we're at it, what's with all the Ann Coulter and Tucker Carlson types who hate liberal elitists, but for some reason have to live in the northeast?

10. Liberal is a four letter word
Only to stupid people who can't count.

We came to this country for religious freedom.
We Liberated from england
We liberated through the civil war
We liberated women
We liberated senior citizens from the poor house
We liberated workers from oppressive employees
We liberated the earth from corporate pollution

Liberals are the essence of being American.
We are as American as apple pie.
We are as noble as Patrick Henry.
Give me Liberty or give me Death
Be ever so proud of your heritage.
New England Rocks!!!

13. Tired of it, too!
Especially since Bush himself is a self-hating New Englander, born in New Haven and educated at (or at least attended) Andover, Yale and Harvard! Poppy was born in Boston, and the family "summers" in Kennebunkport! How "New England elite" can you get? (I love New England and congratulate the good sense of the blue voters everywhere. WTG!! And being insulted by idiots is a roundabout affirmation of decency. Just remember that up is down with these people.)
