Did anyone else hear this on Democracy Now! ?
This morning as I was awakening, I thought I heard Amy Goodman report that 1,000 armed troops were to be on the streets of D. C. for W's inauguration.

Anyone else hear that?

1. I haven't heard that, but I have been wondering if they have
requested permission from VA and MD yet to position the crowd control barricades on state soil.

2. On VOA, they reported that this will have the highest security ever
in the untied states. No protesters will be allowed anywhere near any motorcade. No protesters will be allowed anywhere near the white house. In fact, despite the Hoopla for opening the street in front of the White house, they plan to close it again for the inaguration. Makes them look successful, while continuing to achieve their goal of showing no dissent.

ARMED? YOU BET.

4. Does this violate the Posse Comitatus law?
I thought troops weren't supposed to be used for security during civilian events.

8. Some BS "special national security event" status
has been assigned to the inauguration. And can be assigned to any other damn thing to. So much for Posse Comitatus. :grr:

14. These people think they are above the law...
I believe they have used regular army personnel to confront demonstrators at some of the anti-globalization protests.

I remember an incident in the late 1980's when the army came in and secured an area in Humboldt County California to look for pot gardens. The operation was secret, although people were getting suspicious of all the military helicoptors on the area. It became public when a young teenage girl was walking through the woods, and came upon armed, masked commando types on the trail. We all went out to their staging area and protested their presence with the usual signs, and chants and singing and shouting curses at them. A couple of veterans crossed their perimeter lines in order to be arrested, as a protest and to try to get the operation publicized. Very little pot was found, but a lot of taxpayer money was wasted. Locals were very upset, but nothing ever came of it.

These folks control everything including the courts, so they are above the law.

Military Tanks Patrol Anti-War Protest in Los Angeles
And in Los Angeles, anti-war protesters there have expressed shock after two military tanks appeared at a small anti-war demonstration Tuesday night. The tanks drove by the protesters, went around the block and then stopped directly next to the scene of the protest in front of the Westwood Federal Building. The Los Angles Police Department claimed the tanks belonged to the National Guard and just happened to be driving by the scene of the protest. The National Guard denied the tanks were theirs but said they might have been Marine tanks. Earlier this week, the Washington Post is reporting that as many as 4,000 combat troops may be deployed to the streets of Washington during the inauguration of President Bush in January.

The day after the election an F-16 strafed a school in N.J., tanks on the streets in L. A., troops on the streets in D. C.

The thousand year Reich begins.

6. so, that won't stop us will it?
OK, so we won't be anywhere near the White House, but that's a hell of a mandate when you've got to deploy a battallion to protect your sorry vote-fraudin' ass.

12. The Repukes claim Moore lied because
it was only one egg that was thrown, according to them...

Now, do you know anybody who comes to an event intending to throw eggs, who brings just ONE egg? How would you carry it?

Lying bastards...

13. See above for the other posts on numbers, BUT
DUers brought up a great idea the other day.

Whistles! You can blow them REALLY REALLY loud from even a few blocks away, and with enough numbers, you can make broadcasting by the whores difficult, and eardrums blow up and down the parade route.

I LOVE this idea. They don't HAVE to see you. All they have to do is HEAR you to know that their elaborately constructed sham of an inauguration is not accepted or believed.
