totally creeped out by totalitarian SLIDERS episode...
one of my 'guilty pleasures' since turning off all corporate media on 11/3 has been the all-day reruns on Sci-Fi network (Outer Limits, Night Stalker, etc.)

yesterday was SLIDERS day and I caught one episode that was utterly chilling given what's happening.

(if you don't know SLIDERS, the premise that a multitude of parallel worlds exist and the main character 'slide' from world to world finding an earth that can be anything from still populated by dinosaurs to post-apocalpyse to... well anything.

in this episode, the "sliders" find themselves in a theocratic civilization where science is illegal and blind allegiance to "the Oracle" is rigidly enfourced.

citizens are honored to step into a device which will send them as emissaries to the new world. (in fact, the machine is an OVEN!)

the whole episode just creeped me out. here are a couple of synopses culled from google:
Quinn, Rembrandt and Maggie land on a world where the United States is run by the Oracle, a blend of fundamental beliefs and right-wing conservatism. Followers trade their wealth and possessions in return for passage to a nirvana world, but the Sliders discover the Oracle's portal is a deadly sham.

Love, peace, and harmony prevail on this world ruled by a man called the Master Oracle. But the Sliders inadvertently run afoul of the law by possessing an "illegal scientific device" -- their timer -- which is confiscated by the Oracle's Enforcers. When the Enforcers conclude that the Sliders are members of the militant underground called "Radical Rationalists," Quinn, Maggie, and Rembrandt are earmarked for "chemical re-configuration" -- personality erasure and brainwashing which will forcibly convert them to the Way of the Oracle.

any SLIDERS fans remember this one?

1. I missed this, but remember "V"?
And "They Live," two other sci-fi movies/mini-series that were themed around fascism...

4. Yes! I remember that episode.
It isn't too far off from where we're headed.

I've always felt that Bush resembles a Kromagg.

5. Hal Lindsey's website is called "Hal Lindsey's Oracle"
Prescient, or maybe one of the team had a close brush with Fundamentalism.

6. It would have been very accurate except for two things...
It required the rightwing nutjobs to give up there money and possessions. Oh and probably their guns as well. Now that is a fantasy land. LOL

11. yup, he's a hottie!
and the j edgar hoover ep was good...they were in some sort of fascist police state and were wondering why all the cops were wearing skirts...then they went to a police station and saw a pic of president hoover in a skirt, lol.

there was also a good ep in which the brits won the revolutionary war
