Gonzalez has Bush fundies already crawling out of the woodwork.
Full story here

An anti-abortion group Thursday accused President Bush of ignoring his anti-abortion principles in nominating White House counsel Alberto Gonzales for the post of attorney general.

Saw this one coming a mile away. Bear in mind these are the same nitwits that will tell the fetus to go fuck itself after it's born. No right to decent education, no living wage, no health care, no consumer protections, no clean air, no welfare, no food stamps no secure pension.

I guess watching someone dangling and twitching at the end of a noose is okay to these people though...

1. I'm pro-life and voted for Kerry
why do you feel the need to insult me?

2. So you're one of those attacking Bush for "abandoning pro-life stance"?
That's the only group the comment was addressed to. If you voted for Kerry, you wouldn't fall into that group.

What a fascinating choice for a first post. Your future posts will surely be worth watching.

5. Fair enough
I'm new here and I don't see why people are calling everyone that is against abortion idiots and stuff like that. I don't want to start a fight, I was just a tad bit offended at the original post. But I'm very much opposed to Bush.

...abortion. I personally respect that view, though I totally disagree. However, you should be warned that DU is not really very open to that side of the argument.

I'm just saying you might want to take it easy with the content of the posts until you know the ropes.

It's good to familiarize yourself with them, anyway.

Good luck.

... brand of "onward Christian soldiers" pro life people, that are constantly trying to influence the process and remake the constitution in their image, you should not be offended.

The people that are biggest proponents of pro life, and subsequently the most vocal and active, are the same people that are bombing abortion clinics. They are putting up web sites with pictures, names and addresses of people that are going into planned parenthood, be it for an abortion, or for pre-natal vitamins, so every right wing nutcase with a small arsenal and a grudge has a map to their front door. They are also constantly in our faces pushing their radical "with us or against us" agenda.

That is the "nitwits" whom I am addressing. I am pro life myself. I am against the death penalty, war, disenfranchisement, and standing idly by while people starve. However, I also believe, that anti-abortion activism has morphed into the worst type of invasion of privacy.

Oh welcome to DU by the way...

14. If they are criticizing him for not appointing an anti-choice zealot
then they ARE nutjobs.

Read this from the article:

"As a Texas Supreme Court justice, Gonzales' rulings implied he does not view abortion as a heinous crime," said Judie Brown, president of the American Life League, in a written statement.

Um...he is going to be the head of the frickin' Justice Department.

Abortion is legal.

It would be unethical to appoint someone who believes that abortion is a "heinous crime" since the JOB of the head of the frickin Justice Department is to uphold the law of the land...Not rewrite the law or fail to enforce laws that he doesn't agree with.

19. oh I agree about him being Bush's guy
And I guess the Fundies don't mind that he was counsel to Enron, right?

But as for the point about abortion...their whole position is nuts. It boils down to: "We're mad because we don't think this person appointed to uphold the law wants to overturn a particular law we don't like."

11. Hope we don't get suckered
This guy is bad news, I could care less what his stand on abortion is. This is an opportunity to stand up for Democratic values beyond abortion. Truth in government, international law, protection of the mentally retarded, and against corruption in government. I'm very worried that we're going to accept this guy as a moderate because of abortion, when he's not, and end up with him on the Supreme Court.

12. Bush HAS NO anti-abortion principles. He only USES the prolife vote as a
cushion to promote his fascist, corporate agenda.

The moral values crowd will open their eyes to discover they have been USED to destroy American democracy for George Bush's New World Order with corporations in control. Too bad it will be too late.

because he voted against parental consent while in Texas. Old Georgie got in bed with some bad fuckers when he went after the right wing nutcase fundies.
