Peterson/Shark Attacks/etc should get their own forum |
|
The media always finds and runs an extended BS "story" that has ZERO significance for 99% of people other than to distract from REAL news.
I can't believe people are posting Peterson news in LBN. My GOD people who cares??? Well, other than Rove that is. It's this kind of distraction that has led us to another bush term, yet even DUers seem to have gotten taken in.
If you don't realize just how ridiculous this is - realize that CNN commentators were suggesting that should something happen in the Peterson case ON ELECTION DAY they cut from election day news to the Peterson "story". Does anyone else realize how sick and pathetic that is?
And if it's not a perverted entertainment trial (that's right - the media airs Peterson for *entertainment* value - they have now reduced trials in our courts to entertainment) it will be something else. Either shark attacks or some "scandal". And by "scandal" I don't mean, say, war crimes or shredding of the constitution by the executive, but <gasp> a breast on tv.
Anyway - I like DU (especially LBN) because you actually can find REAL news and discussion that has some significance. I don't see how Peterson qualifies for "news". There should be a media BS stories forum for those who like the medias hand picked BS.

There are aspects of the Peterson case that could affect people across the country because of its being a precedent setter.
He was convicted of a double murder, one victim being Laci Peterson. The other being the fetus, Conner Peterson. This made a special circumstances label to be attached to the case. There are legal experts who say that murdering an unborn fetus could be a future path to overthrowing Roe V Wade. And just the idea of including the fetus as a murder victim is relatively new and untried.
As to whether the case is BS or not. I may be to you but there are an awful lot of people around the country who were extremely interested in the case. Laci was a pretty woman and I have heard from people who said they would have loved to have had her in their family. So people kind of took this trial personally.
And you can say they make a big deal over a white woman but you hear nothing about African Americans who are murdered or other minorities. I suggest you pay a bit more attention to the news, especially the local TV newscasts that you denigrate so easily. They do cover those cases too but most of those cases are more easily concluded than are the others. Remember, the Laci Peterson case involved an unborn baby, a vivacious mother to be, an arrogant smart ass defendant and....gasp,,,a mistress. For a lot of people, this was like watching a soap opera.

"being a precedent setter"
So... You're telling me a jury in a lower court has the authority to overturn a supreme court decision? Sorry, they DON'T. I don't watch the media whores, but if they are saying this they are flat out LIEING. This has ZERO impact on Roe.
A jury in a lower court can NOT overturn the supreme court. PERIOD.
The "story" has zero signifigance.

4. I am not going to get into a debate with you |

but when I mentioned Roe V Wade, I said there are some who believe this COULD BE a way to get at Roe V Wade. I DID NOT say this would overturn it.
The trial had significance for a lot of people for a lot of reasons. If you are not interested in the Peterson case, ignore it. You are under no obligation to follow it.
