Question about Democratic Party Meet up Groups
My town, Tuscaloosa Alabama, has a meet up group that I just joined. According to the website, there are 55 members but no leader. I guess we can't function without a leader, so I am considering volunteering, but I want to know if any of you go to these meet up groups. What are your plans for the next few months? Any information or suggestions appreciated!

1. I go occasionally.
I have a good friend who keeps it organized. Meetup is basically an informal group discussion. I make activism suggestions for the group, but usually only get a few takers.

3. My Kerry Meet up group was initially totally disorganized
There was a 'host', but nothing got done at all from February on until we took it upon ourselves to organize more formally in August. We did far more than our county Democratic Party from then on.

We've now reorganized outside of meet up as an independent grassroots Democratic group. We're reaching out to the local Dem party, but won't be co-opted by their lazy stagnant leadership if push comes to shove.

6. Good for you
I think that Meetups and other grassroots groups are the future of the party. Too many local (and not-so-local) leaders have an attitude of "we've always done it this way". Guess what? You've been losing!

5. My groups are still meeting
several of them had post election decompression meeting. I didn't go b/c I'm still in the throws of getting a new job started.

One of my moveon.org groups I think is meeting Dec 1, but no details yet. I should feel like doing something after work by then.

7. I go
It is a great way to be with like-minded liberals, you don't feel so alone. We have decided to concentrate on local elections during the next few years, working from the ground up, so to speak. We will continue to register Dem voters, write letters to editors, work for local Dem candidates for school board, mayor, representatives to state legislature, stay visible, so that other Dem voters do not lose heart, and lobby our state reps for our liberal agenda.
