How plausible is Guiliani for Repug candidate in 2008? |
|
I realize that Guiliani won a lot of fans because he didn't cry on 9/11, but is it really plausible for him to run for President? First of all, his highest political office has been mayor, right?
And didn't he say in a live press conference that he was leaving his wife for another woman - a fact his wife had not been aware of until she saw it in said press conference???
Besides the fact that I think he is an asshole, I feel that these are obstacles he might not be able to overcome, particularly in 2008 - seven years after 9/11, when the ability to exploit that tragedy will be lessened.
Thoughts?

Can't underestimate the merry band of assholes known as the GOP. If they want him to run for President against our candidate then they will find a way for their red state brain deads to vote for him.

Any rat who moves his whore in on his wife and children is going to be very vulnerable on family values issues, even if he did manage to oust his family to marry the whore.
That is, if we get rid of the timid, little old ladyish DLC in time to use it.

The fundies won't go for it.
His affair is one part. His pro-choice, pro-gay stances are another. He could never survive the primaries because of his lack of fundie support and the moderate Republicans who will think "Giuliani could never win because he doesn't have the fundie support." Kind of like how Lieberman was too conservative for people to support and people didn't vote for him because they knew no one else would fall in line.

As an NYC resident, I wonder what your opinion is.
Apparently, he wrote carte blanche to the police to rampage black neighborhoods?
People really need to know this stuff about St. Guiliani, in case he decides to run.

16. All kind of crap like that, |
|
you probably heard about some of the big time horrible racist police actions which occurred on Rudy's watch. (rape with broomstick, gunned down a guy in a vestibule who was reaching for his keys, etc)
For the average NYC'er he got rid of the squeegee men who smeared up people's windshields at red lights and arrested people for jaywalking. He had no personality and he didn't want the city to have any either.
I hated him. I had to leave the city during his term, so I wasn't there post 9/11, but my friends there STILL hate him.

19. Cheney was not at the top of the ticket |

Big difference. Maybe Rudy could get by as a VP candidate, but I still think he would drag a ticket. Then again, if someone can win with Cheney on the ticket...

9. Depends on how he spins his abortion views. |
|
If he can sell himself better to the religious right he would have a chance of getting the nomination. If that succeeded (unlikely), he would have a good chance of winning the election. Possibly one of only two Republicans who could carry NY, which would almost shut down the election right there.
As for his political experience? Yes, he has "only" been a mayor...
But remember that "mayor" (like "Governor" and unlike "Senator") is an executive position - so the experience is relevant for the White House.
But "only" a mayor you say?
He was the executive of a population of over 8 Million.
Bill Clinton was executive over less than a third of that in AK... and Jimmy Carter was executive over somewhat less than 6 Million in GA. Even Bush's state of Texas is only 2.5 times that size.
Mayor of a city like New York is high enough, especially when it could carry the state with it.
But it could never really happen. He can't get the nomination.
